[valve winning the console wars (lol)]
@Li i usually need a minute to get used to a new UI but modern big picture (we don't talk about old big picture) just kinda... works for me
A screenshot of Steam's Big Picture Mode, with the games Unpacking, Black Mesa, Watch Dogs 2, Event 0, and the Henry Stickmin Collection shown in the recent games area.
[valve winning the console wars (lol)]
@Li with valve winning the console wars (probably), how in the hell is steam's big picture mode more intutive to use than any console UIs i've seen past the Wii?
I happened to remember that steam allows you to buy the trading cards you can collect by playing games (it doesn't let you collect all of them though) from the community market right when I had an awkward amount of leftover money in my steam wallet
so my steam account may have gained 10 levels [β¦]
tried getting the mods i play portal 2 with again and encountered an issue i've always had
if i make a portal2_dlc3 folder it drops me on a loading screen after the valve logo which never seems to be done, despite the progress bar filling entirely (and going orange, probably to indicate that [β¦]
[re: trying to help someone use apple pay]
@Li i'm unable to check how it looks in apple pay since that just automatically activates and tells me to hold the phone near the reader, but in older version of iOS they very much did not have the extra graphic telling you how you're supposed to use that
[re: trying to help someone use apple pay]
@Li in most situations they combine the two, making it much more obvious what they mean
[trying to help someone use apple pay]
@Li you know usually they put in a little graphic that shows that they mean the side button, or just have the double click to [something] next to the side button
[re: windows 11 update]
@Li there should be a "remove previous feature update" in the recovery menu i believe
[windows 11 update]
@Li i think the generally agreed upon solution is to not upgrade in the first place, downgrade to 24H2, or just move back to windows 10
the funny thing is that i don't have this problem if i run *with* debugging
oh but i can't run python code at all in VS2022, it works fine in VS2019 though
but VS2019 can't run modern pytest
@Li they forgot the quotes
i can't run python code without debugging in visual studio
A Windows Command Prompt window which says "'C:\Users\random' is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Press any key to continue . . ."
there goes me having symbols in my username fucking up windows again
this is the first time i've ever actually been glad to be broke - if i wasn't i'd have already bought tablet hardware that can run windows 7
@Li just one of the reasons diamond will never be able to convince me to move my website from caddy to nginx
caddy doesn't use certbot and it's easy enough to make it allow HTTP connections
[windows live messanger]
finally got around to setting up the windows live messanger private server .. .. ( i never used it back in the day, short of just "opening this magically fixes the internet somehow" ) and girls, holy fuck; im mad, not because its bad, but [β¦]
[Original post on tech.lgbt]
my windows 2000 install has ceased to exist, and thereβs two windows technical previews now
the windows 10 technical preview has consumed my windows 2000 install
windows 10 technical preview was less than happy about the additional install of windows
after a small amount of research, this indeed will be it's final form
i've hit the 4 partition limit
that multiboot i was working on has now reached what is most likely it's final form
The Extra Cursed Quad-Boot
Windows 2000, Windows 11 Pro, Windows 10 Technical Preview, and the Windows 8 Consumer Preview
..and 2000 still agrees on booting!
i've accidentially turned my tri-boot into a quad-boot by duplicating the windows technical preview while trying to get windows 2000 to agree to boot again
windows 2000 must never learn of the third hundred gigs on this laptop HDD
(it'll crash if the HDD has more than 200 gigs used)
somewhat unrelated: i actually kinda like the windows 10 technical preview start menu
it feels like a fusion of the 7 start menu and the windows 8 start screen
(why didn't they keep this in 10 again?)
iβve made it infinitely worse
and still have 5 gigs free
any suggestions?
i shrank 11's partition to 100 gigs and it works now
and i have enough space to make this a tri-boot
so i've installed windows 11 on what is the least compatible with windows 11 computer i own (4GB of ram, Pentium T4600, HDD, non-UEFI BIOS) and it (barely) works
also there's an install of windows 2000 still on this hard drive
it doesn't boot anymore but that's not all that surprising
@preloading.dev on fedi that'd be @Li
i run updates once a week and i haven't been able to run them for the last two
