St. Gregory Palamas, pray to God for us!
The first Greek-English edition of The Triads, by Alexander Titus, SVS Press, 2025.
The first complete translation of The Triads, by Fr. Peter Chamberas, 2021.
The Homilies, translated by Christopher Veniamin, 2009. An indispensable treasure.
Faber & Faber, 1995.
_The Philokalia: The Complete Text, Volume Four_. Probably as good a a book as any to read for an introduction to St. Gregory Palamas, since it includes many short or abbreviated texts authored by him.
The 150 Capita / Propositions/ Kephalaia / βChaptersβ. Translation by Robert Sinkewicz, 1988.
A preliminary translation of a portion of _The Triads by Gregory Palamas_ from Paulist Press. 1983.
Hitherto none (I think) of the works of Gregory Palamas had been translated into English. Fr. John Meyendorff worked exclusively with Greek manuscripts to compose this landmark study, as Tikhon Pino recently pointed out in a conference lecture.
I begin with the cover of a book I actually do not own, _A Study of Gregory Palamas_ by John Meyendorff. I have been meaning to acquire this book for some time now. It includes a learned timeline or chronology of the life of St. Gregory. It was a pioneering work translated into English in 1964.
I want to post pics of the books by St. Gregory here, not in the historical order in which they were written by him, but instead in the order they were published in English.
I do not intend to broadly summarize the importance of St. Gregory here, but I did want to pay homage to him in words and photos. I have not read him even as poorly as I have read St. Maximus and others, so Iβm not in position to give an account.
Perhaps not surprisingly St. Gregory Palamas is no exception. I shouldnβtβve been surprised to learn how indebted he is to the Greek Patristic tradition, but perhaps the vehemence with which he derides the value of Greek learning gave me pause to consider how well he knew the likes of St. Maximus.
Having a small personal library is a funny thing, because I have many books I want to read and keep, but have not read yet in their entirety. I occasionally pick them up and find footnotes and references to other books I already own, which experience manages to encourage me in my collecting.
Inspired by Sister Vassa Larinβs podcasts this week on St. Gregory Palamas and hesychasm, Iβve decided to preemptively pull down my Palamas collection and dive in (or at least get my toes wet).

Reports of the Israelis bombing a UNIFIL position in South Lebanon
217 killed, 789 injured and 95,7773 forcibly displaced
At least 217 killed, 789 injured and 95,7773 forcibly displaced in Lebanon due to Israeli strikes already

βYou keep using that word; I do not think it means what you think it means.β
I found out late last night that yesterday was Mark the Asceticβs commemoration. Kinda bummed I didnβt have time to read anything by him yesterday. Maybe today!
Okay. I take it back. Apparently the UBS GNT always comes with headings.
I still dislike them.
I did not spend over $50 on UBS6 to have to put up with English headings.
A map with descriptive text
Now the Bekaa valley. The IDF is ordering the forced evacuation of three towns in the Bekaa, east Lebanon
We now have all of south Lebanon, all of Dahieh and parts of the Bekaa
Map showing Dahieh in red and orange
The IDF just ordered the forced evacuation of *all of Dahieh* a day after ordering the forced evacuation of all of South Lebanon.
Israel is taking advantage of the focus on Iran to destroy Lebanon
Urgent warning to residents of southern Lebanon: Hezbollahβs terrorist activities are forcing the Defense Army to act against it with force. The Defense Army does not intend to harm you. For your safety, you must evacuate your homes immediately. Anyone who is near Hezbollah members, its facilities, or its weapons puts his life at risk. Any house used by Hezbollah for military purposes may become a target. To the residents of southern Lebanon, you must go right away to the north side of the Litani River to ensure your safetyβevacuate your homes immediately and move northward beyond the Litani River. Be aware that any movement southward will endanger your lives.
Quick translation of the IDF statement ordering all of south Lebanon's population to immediately leave.
Keep in mind that Israel has never stopped bombing south Lebanon since the 'ceasefire.' They are now taking the next step to destroy as much of the country as they can.
Israeli map showing all of southern Lebanon in red with yellow arrows pointing to north of the Litani river
The IDF just ordered the *entirety of south Lebanon* to be forcibly displaced.
They are emptying the land of its population, creating a massive crisis, and will now proceed to further annihilate large parts of Lebanon.
The very nation state of Lebanon is being destroyed.
Never mind an interlinear bible, get me a New Testament in the RSV with Greek text facing from the left-hand side.
Canβt un-see/un-hear it.
I guess I have a reasonable, yet strong opinion that all hardcover books should come with a ribbon marker. Especially non-fiction.
