Het was denk ik van de pandemie geleden dat we nog eens iets met de 'Popular Times' data van Google gedaan hadden, maar het was er de week wel voor π De tekst is van @thomasroelens.bsky.social, de data en het gepruts van yours truly.
Somewhat unsurprisingly, there are big price differences between Train + Flight itineraries and that same route without the first and last legs. This, for example, is Cologne-Kinshasa vs Brussels-Kinshasa. (But 5h14 between plane and train? Ouch)
I know, from experience, what you mean π But really, any 'attempt' is welcome at BRU. Also, if Brussels Airlines is selling tickets for Cologne-BRU-XXX, at least they 'believe' it's going to be somewhat OK? π€
Schedule for this new connection showing a departure in Cologne at 06:11, arriving Brussels Airport at 08:29 and Antwerp at 08:58
Serving Antwerp as well and, at least between Cologne and BRU, sold as a codeshare with Brussels Airlines.
There's going to be a new high-speed rail connection at Brussels Airport. Finally.
"Deutsche Bahn is adding Brussels Airport to its network [... ] as of September 2026. The first train of this new connection will depart in Cologne on September 7th at 06.11 am.β
That looks great, love it!
This! π
It's not like you can take the train. There's water in between.
Of course I do π It's 13 hours on the ground in St. John's and I can assure you I could do A LOT in that time, enough to make it worthwhile.
Screenshot showing a 23.5 hours connection between Dublin (DUB) and London (LGW), via YYT (St. John's) on June 4th. Priced at just under 410 euro.
Lol, WestJet will happily sell you a one way flight from Dublin to London - via St. John's. #AvGeek

So if you start an instant noodle business today, YOU TOO could be ordering 40 widebodies by 2045!
Sun Group was founded in 2007 by four Vietnamese who lived in the former Soviet Union. One of them being LΓͺ ViαΊΏt Lam, who was a business partner of Vingroup's founder β PhαΊ‘m NhαΊt Vượng β in the Technocom instant noodle business they set up in Kharkiv, Ukraine. After establishing a supermarket, hotel and water park in Kharkiv, in 2007, Lam went back to Vietnam to build Sun Group's first Vietnamese theme park, Ba Na Hills.
"Vietnamβs Sun PhuQuoc Airways orders βup toβ 40 787s". Got to admit I had to look them (or at least their parent company) up on Wikipedia and couldn't help but find that whole company history quite peculiar. #AvGeek
Why are we reaching out? You have booked a crossing with our ship within the period of 1st of May 2026 to 31st of October 2026. However, the booking you have made is completed with an end net price of 0,- DKK. This is of course an incorrect price which differs substantially from the correct price you were informed about. This has occurred due to a system failure. As there is no payment the crossing is seen as unpaid and will be cancelled.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience. In order to compensate you, we offer you a 10 % discount on your new booking of the crossing.
We have not included a link to our website in this e-mail. This is for your sense of security that this is not a scheme to relieve you from your credit card details. We suggest that you use your favourite search engine (Google, Bing etc.) to find our webpage and book your new crossing.
They did eventually send me a mail. Including a very clear explanation (including contact information for their Head of Legal should I want to reach out π€), a discount code for 10% and a good part about not linking to their site to avoid looking like a phishing scan. All very classy!
No more (PSO) flights between London and Newquay after the end of May. Sounds like a right mess and, on a personal level, I can now probably forget ever flying London to the Isles of Scilly. #AvGeek

I mean, shame on me for never having heard of Albenga or Oristano before. π€·
Route map, showing flights from Genoa to Albenga, Milan, Trieste, Venice, Bologna, Rimini, Aosta, Cuneo, Ajaccio, Olbia and Oristano.
Gotta (somehow) love these 'pie in the sky' airline startups. Like AIRIDEA, from Italy but operated by Dutch AIS. They plan flights from Genoa to 11 destinations, 3 of which don't have any scheduled operations yet. With 19-seaters, a 65% load and somehow profitability within the year. #AvGeek

That sounds like a great one! I flew GVA-FCO-YYZ-CDG-VCE in good old Alitalia times. A bit of a detour but a steal at 240 euro. And back in 2019, Condor sold me a one way Frankfurt to Whitehorse for just 99 euro. I actually don't think that was a mistake as it was the last flight of the season.
Absolutely, especially as they didn't even ask for my payment details and thus couldn't even charge me anything.
And... it's cancelled. (As I just found out on the 'manage my booking' section of their site, didn't get an e-mail or anything).
What. The. Actual. Fuck. The war in Ukraine is not a joke, I think this in incredibly bad taste. crankyflier.com/2026/02/10/c...
