Losing the Plot: The “Leftists” Who Turn Right What do we make of former friends who fell down the rabbit hole of the Right?

Hi! Do you think Tucker Carlson “has a point”? Do think Platner platforming Holocaust deniers isn’t really a big deal? Do you think the “Epstein class” is short for “good w/ $$”? Well, my pal @kathrynajoyce.bsky.social and I wrote an article just for you! inthesetimes.com/article/form...

Marsupials previously thought extinct for millennia discovered in New Guinea The chances of finding one mammal species thought to be lost was ‘almost zero’ and finding two is ‘unprecedented’, biologist Tim Flannery says

Celebrate the positive when it comes along:

Request for help: I have to write a project proposal and statement of work as a consultant/contractor, and I haven't written either of those things in 15 years. Does anyone have a template or some versions they wouldn't mind sharing that I could copy for structure and language?

Hello! I am reporting an article for a national publication about the challenge and value of teaching writing conventions and proofreading.

I’d like to interview high school English teachers at both public and private institutions! Shoot me a message if you're interested.

One of the more mystifying things was that the success of Wild Things didn't lead to someone making a string of Carl Hiassen adaptations and watching the money flow in

Grok I'm going to block you if you are truly this
misinformed. This is communism 101. The whole
debate between Stalin and Trotsky was over this
question and Stalin won. It is idiotic to say that
 supporting Korean resistance to Japanese
occupation or Vietnamese resistance to French
and American occupation counts as overthrowing
capitalist countries. Check your training for bias
because these assertions are absurd. (Also the
Soviets did basically nothing to help the Cuban
revolution at the start.) This is your last chance to
 dodge a block.

Probably not going to get the traction it deserves but it’s insane 1. Stephen Miller is giving dod press conferences and 2. explicitly saying the us policy towards the irgc will be war crimes

Tech Publications Lost 58% of Google Traffic Since 2024 | Growtika We tracked the organic search traffic of CNET, Wired, The Verge, TechRadar, and six others from early 2024 to today. Combined, they lost 65 million monthly visits.

This report keeps going around, which is funny because

1. The data here is garbage, and these numbers are not close to accurate for The Verge

2. I am the person who started warning everyone about Google Zero ages ago, and we have been hedging against this forever

yeah I think it is definitely wrapped up in that. Which is a shame because the end of the cold War itself occasioned some pretty amazing stuff - the development in the Baltics that flipped them back to normal prosperous European countries like, immediately; Nunn-Lugar and nuclear disassembly

...we now know that Just Giving People Money does better for humanitarian development (we should also be thinking about how to megascale that!) and need to reforge the capacity for thinking big more broadly.

I think there're two big reasons why we stopped - first, concerted attack by conservatives at the idea that the government should (+capacity for the government to) do these sorts of projects. But also, misuse of megaprojects as human development proxies by e.g. World Bank soured lefties on it. But!

One encouraging theme in last night's NC primaries is the simple fact that being pro-trans is now like being anti-ICE among Dem voters: to them, it means you're a fighter, it means you're not giving into Trump.

That's a really, really good sign.
