...we now know that Just Giving People Money does better for humanitarian development (we should also be thinking about how to megascale that!) and need to reforge the capacity for thinking big more broadly.
I think there're two big reasons why we stopped - first, concerted attack by conservatives at the idea that the government should (+capacity for the government to) do these sorts of projects. But also, misuse of megaprojects as human development proxies by e.g. World Bank soured lefties on it. But!
