βSci-fi/horror Piranesi but written by Gene Wolfeβ is about the best description Iβve got. Perhaps βsci-fi Gormenghast by Wolfeβ is better, but I havenβt read Gormenghast.
Anyways, thatβs my pitch, so if thatβs your jam, go read it

A LONG WAY TO A SMALL, ANGRY PLANET made me wonder if the entire civilization had been secretly implanted with brain-altering chips that compelled niceness.
(That being said I would strongly argue that aesthetic objections are in fact completely material to the evaluation of art.)

Even pre-Internet, one of the reasons I prefer having bound volumes of old comics over official reprints is that you get all of the old letters and contemporaneous editorial commentary that's usually removed from collected editions.
Now that's still missing fanzine discussion and the like, but

My pitch for Casablanca always is "It's good, it's fun, it's movies. Liking movies and not liking Casablanca is an impossibility. You are guaranteed a good time." I have never had anyone disagree after they watch it.

A bookshelf with a bunch of bound comic books.
Full shelf pic, although a lot of books are hiding because it's double-stacked. (I really need a new bookshelf but am not really sure where I have room to put one.)

This is not how they're permanently shelved, mercifully.
(Although the fact that I have Worlds Collide shelved under "S" for Superman would probably also bother you. It kind of bothers me!)

Five books on a shelf. The first, and thinnest, is green with gold text on its spine that reads "Infinity Man and the Forever People (2014β2015)". The second is red with gold text on its spine that reads "New Super-Man (2016β18)". The third, and thickest, is black with silver text on its spine that reads "Resurrection Man (1997β2000)". The fourth is red with blue text on its spine that reads "Valor (1992-94)". The fifth is blue with gold text on its spine that reads "Worlds Collide (1994)".

A self-admitted political novice whose only previous experience in elected office was as student body president at Johns Hopkins University, Agarwal said it was finally the right moment to explore his interest in public service after he turned 40 and sold his latest company last year. He launched a campaign for governor in August, but gained no traction, and said he is changing course because he can have more of an impact in the House race.
βI felt like it was a bit of a put-up-or-shut-up kind of moment, where I canβt keep complaining about something if Iβm not going to do something about it,β he said.
Also this kind of quote just annoys me. There are in fact any number of ways to get involved in public service that aren't running for major offices.
(I am younger than this guy and this is my fifth year on the Sunnyvale Planning Commission.)

On the one hand, the DC K.O. deaths were already signposted as "NOT PERMANENT, BIG BUILT-IN END OF EVENT UNDO BUTTON."
On the other hand, maybe don't have an event where you're signposting that at all?

I personally don't think that running a "the incumbent has lost touch with his district" campaign will work against an incumbent who holds monthly in-district town halls and, among other things, got my city $2M in federal funds for safe routes to schools, but I guess we will find out.

A couple months ago I asked both Claude and ChatGPT to create an optimized schedule of ~100 hikes based on various constraints.
Claude gave me a workable first draft of a schedule that I was able to adjust into something usable.
ChatGPT made up its *own* list of ~100 hikes and scheduled *that*.
