This is a Fender Precision bass. No, really! A company from the UK called The Painted Player carved and painted the body of a Fender Precision to make it look like the eponymous submarine from the Beatles movie Yellow Submarine. You can tell it's a Precision because of the pickguard shape and the split pickup. Since the normal control cavity has been carved away, the volume and tone knobs are on the bottom of the body. This picture also shows the case for the bass, which has been painted as well.

Current work in progress, just seeing how all the major hardware fits together on this resonator after building all the maple bracing under that lid. It'll be a few weeks before this thing is playable but I'm happy with the result so far.

It's about tone shaping. I'm a builder, not at a performer, so not much mid-song switching happens. I'll be busking for the very first time this summer so that may change - I've never played an actual show and I'm nervous as hell tbh

My pedalboard has grown and evolved in the past month and seems to have undergone meiosis. This is causing a disruption in the workshop - normal building will resume in a few days upon receipt of the proper wood humors and mahogany liniments.

Today's tariff ruling won't change the fact I've been paying extra for nearly everything this past year and I know full well I'll never see that money again, but just knowing that a splatter of thrown ketchup is likely dripping down some gold-colored wall appliques this morning is a nice thought.

More instruments are on the way. Finally. Pictured are three of the five gittys I'm currently working on - shaping and rough sanding is done. Two more are not far behind.

I should be in my workshop but instead have spent the past few days wrapping my brain around this bit of kit I've been sent to review. It handles clean tones amazingly well but getting anything more than a nibble of bluesy grit out of this thing is next to impossible. I'll stick with my pedalboard.

I think I have my studio pedalboard sorted now with a couple of new ones via the product review side gig. My looper is no longer on this board - I'm going to build a mini side-stomper for that. If I'm going to be busking at the farmer's market this summer I should have my sound ready, right?
