The Rose City Pride Bands presents βAn American Question: Who Gets to Be Heard?β, a joint concert with our two wind bands. This program explores America as a living question, and asks who has been heard, who has been silenced, and how sound itself becomes an act of belonging.

I had the honor of writing a remix for this here BAD END THEATER vinyl soundtrack release!! you are in for a real treat given this cast π
so happy to see this on vinyl~
I think one aspect of analog revival, or even piracy & peer to peer resurgence, is more than simple nostalgia. It's getting to be about anti-surveillance at this point. A company keeping track of every little thing you did in a year while also constantly interrupting it is actually not that cute
"everyone's using AI, you have to accept it" i respect very little of what Everyone gets up to these days, why would this sway me. Everyone is a jackass
Album art for The Hugur Files by DonutShoes. In a dingy basement somewhere, a glitchy portal appears with an alien hand emerging from it, reaching towards the viewer.
It's out! I've just released my new album The Hugur Files, a chiptune concept album about secret government research, psychics who steal energy from the future, and powerful time aliens
There's no Bandcamp Friday this month so feel free to buy it.. RIGHT NOW! donutshoes.bandcamp.com/album/the-hu...
In April 2024, Spotify implemented a new scheme: songs with less than 1k streams per year would no longer receive royalties.
The data for 2025 was just released via Luminate, and 88% of songs have been demonetized.
Read it again: 88% of songs on Spotify have been demonetized.
"There have been times where people are like, 'I read your book and then I canceled Spotify and I got Apple Music!' That kind of misses a lot of the point that this book lands on." β ππ°π°π₯ ππ’π€π©πͺπ―π¦ author Liz Pelly
it is definitely Huge and overwhelming and I am also familiar with out-of-placeness as a state of being; sorry for swarming you after the show
I'm thrilled to have seen it and met you though, I had not imagined I'd get that opportunity, and you've been a very positive influence on me and my work
thank you and your brother for being champions of experimental music! it was great to meet you both too : )
I always get a lot of compliments on my mixes! So for 2026, here's a thread of occasional audio mixing advice:
A secret Santa gift for @samplemance.rs ! They are an amazing musician and I was inspired by his song Yesterday Yesteryear to make this piece! Itβs about merging the past and the present and keeping your memories with you π
1. Did you know that Girl Scouts has, for a long time, accepted trans girls and nonbinary scouts?
Trans kids are under attack. Every year, I make a thread of trans and nonbinary girl scouts you can get your cookies from.
Lets get our cookies from them this year in solidarity!
πΏ 2025 ALBUM FAVES πΏ

the top spot is my favorite album (Welcome to JJ World), and the rest are in chronological order by release date~
I think it's about time I wrote about my favorite music in 2025! I wanna talk a bit about my 5 most favorite albums of the year (regardless of when they came out) and then shout out a few other impactful songs that deserve special mentions. fuck a "wrapped", we are writing and reflecting over here!
if you read through all this, thanks! I hope these albums and tunes are such a well of inspiration for you as they were for me! music is so cool! it was fantastic in 2025 and it will no doubt continue to be in 2026! much love. feel free to share with me some of your favorites too! byeee
one more and then I gotta stop! "Brother Rat / What Slayde Says" by NoMeansNo, which features front-and-center some super compelling lyrical storytelling that sets a captivating, tense atmosphere. the tension builds into an absolutely demented fever and emerges spent, irreparably charred to a crisp.
a beautiful and expressive ballad - "$0" by Cameron Winter from Heavy Metal. a raw cathartic song that makes me marvel at the ways musical performance taps into something profound about the human condition. also, the subject's lyrical framing around money resonates through our hypercapitalist lives.
now, an unbelievable combo - if you never considered the possibility that samba, screamo and chamber pop could all coexist, Gingerbee's "Samba do Nosso CΓ©u" (from Apiary) will force you to reckon with this new reality. an admirable fusion of inspirations, hearts bleeding out under the summer sunset.
here's a challenging one - Anthony Braxton's "N-WH-70 (Opus 38A)". Braxton's work straddles the line between jazz and contemporary classical in a way I find deeply compelling. the juxtaposition and interplay between the two textures here (clarinet & synthesizer) is greater than the sum of its parts.
next, "Rubber Tree Dance" by SML (from Small Medium Large). this track sent me down a tremendously rewarding rabbit hole of electronic avant-jazz after I heard it on our local radio, and its members, all powerful experimental improvisational forces, kept appearing serendipitously in my explorations.
now for a few very special songs:
first, the most beautiful song I heard all year, "Arrested" by Lucy Liyou from her equally excellent 2025 record. a supremely vulnerable and intimate piece; it speaks to the power & value of music as a vehicle for laying bare the heart. the climax is gut-wrenching.
BjΓΆrk - Biophilia (2011)
incredibly artful pop record; songs that build whole entire worlds each. BjΓΆrk's sound design and atmosphere are completely unmatched, and her writing is intensely evocative, ethereal, otherworldly while also remaining visceral and arresting. unreal amount of artistry!
Sunny Kim & Ben Monder - The Dream of the Earth (2016)
stunningly beautiful "jazz as art song" vocalist + jazz guitarist collab. contemplative ambient meditations punctuated by intimate ballads. a haunting spiritual salve for an ailing planet, a theme that really resonates with me (and my music).
This Is Lorelei - Box for Buddy, Box for Star (2024)
it's been years since an indie folk rock album got me this excited! I could not put this one down. direct and catchy songwriting, very well developed lyrics, excellent pacing, just enough experimentation. a cult favorite's deserved breakout hit.
