the way I interpret "'x,' etc" is usually as a fragment of a sentence referring to something in a third person stance ;

so like, when you replied "'answer-shaped response,' etc." to yourself, you were contextualizing "answer-shaped response" as a quote/excerpt rather than as a novel idea
