I need to believe we are fighting for something but every time I interact with someone I know that supports all of this, I just want to give up and move far away and pretend America never existed. But they’d probably just invade wherever I moved anyways so I am right there with you.

You are 100% correct - my point is that citizens should have the right to defend themselves from unidentifiable masked men. If a man in a mask tried to take my wife and kids, one of us would not walk away. We can’t normalize masked assailants being protected over citizens.
