So, if you donβt want land used for commercial forestry, where do you propose all the timber and wood fibre products you use on a daily basis come from?

β¦.would give a greater level of engagement.
An outdoor projection may have the potential to reach a large audience but how many of that audience will actually take on board the content? This is a costly exercise and I just feel better quality results could be reached by other methods.
Thank you.
I totally agree with the thought and endeavour behind the project, I just donβt agree with the application. I would prioritise practical conservation management first and foremost. If public engagement is being sought, I would have thought targeting school age pupils within the school settingβ¦.
Well, everyday is a school day. Iβve just learnt from another follower that larch flowers technically arenβt flowers at all. They are called βstrobiliβ
β¦.Strobili (plural) are cone-like, spirally arranged, spore- or seed-bearing structures found on gymnosperms (pines, firs),
Another sign of springβ¦..
Delicate flowers of the larch trees on my current work site.
Non native not none native π
Iβve spent the morning marking up and preparing an area of my current site for thinning.
If anyone is in any doubt about the damage grey squirrels and none native deer are doing to our woodlands, please take a look for 1 minute.
Sound on.
2/2 The money would be far better spent on long term, practical conservation projects on individual sites. The NT has been cutting back on site expenditure recently and then on the other hand thinks that this is a wise use of resources. Iβm baffled.
As much as I am behind the push to educate the general public in matters of nature conservation, I think this project is completely unnecessary. People now have multiple platforms and opportunities to watch this sort of content without it being projected in public. 1/2

This is a regular walking spot for me as I live in a neighbouring village. Lovely to stumble across the photos in my timeline.
It was an ethereal start in the woods today.

Yes, exactly.
Iβm glad we donβt have to worry about snakes here.
A brilliant example of multi-layered land use. Sustainable timber products (hopefully locally grown) being used to protect areas of high nature conservation and keep in cattle. Our countryside is not one dimensional and often has to serve a number uses. Lovely to see it in action.
2/2 Although the winter has been wet, especially since New Year itβs not record breaking. Another point to note, February hasnβt recorded a single over night frost in this area.
Despite a few nice days recently, February in this part of Suffolk was a wet one. 88.5mm for the month, the wettest month of the winter and 49.5mm above the long term average. Overall the winter total was 195.5mm. This was 47.5mm above the winter average. 1/2
One of my most favourite birds.
No problem at all. I will leave the planting to you. My bad back at the moment wonβt appreciate that. π€£
I would say it will do well exactly where you are going to put it. Likes a moist site but probably not waterlogged. Prefers an acidic soil but will grow in almost anything. I must admit itβs not a species I have had a lot to do with in east Anglia.
Just the same here. Thick cloud today but dry at the moment.
It makes such a difference having a bit of sun on your back and seeing things just starting to dry up a little. Things are just starting to put new growth on here as well.
Great work!
I completed the harvesting element on
my site near Ipswich last week. Ground conditions are unsuitably wet for the extraction so Iβve moved the harvester to the Norfolk Brecks. 9ha of hardwood and softwood thinning to get stuck into for a regular client. Lovely couple of days.
Thank you for your detailed thoughts Philip. I think we are both thinking along the same lines on this subject. You however, have a way of communicating it far more eloquently than myself.
Here at Rumburgh our long term, historic, average rainfall for the months Oct - Feb is 268mm.
So far, for the same period we have received 372mm and we are not quite finished.
Itβs not record breaking but itβs been significantly wetter than normal.
Iβve been glad to see something better today.
Great job!
2/2 β¦..hunt and kill a muntjac when an outdoor bred pig is a far easier meal? These creatures are not stupid. They will always go for the easiest option. Am I missing something?

Lynx reintroduction is often promoted as a way of reducing our deer population. But I have a questionβ¦..In a country with many outdoor reared farm animals, pigs, sheep etc why would a lynxβ¦.1/2
A great and informative watch for 20mins. β¬οΈ
