ngl, Northern Ontario is maybe the second or third most scenic area of the country *at best*, and it still looks like this. π€©ποΈ
ok, but at least modern agriculture doesn't depend on natural gas, so that's fine, right?
hang on, I'm getting a message...
yeahhhh, Canadians have seen how this played out with Tims and it's not good π₯²
here they shifted to frozen par-baked donuts, shipped from factories & finished locally. a move that coincidentally also eliminated all the baker positions, the best paid workers in the store π
exactly; this complicates matters around increasing US oil production
nobody wants to be the fool who drilled a well that breaks even at $70, if next week oil is back to $65 π
A blank, generic cereal box with the caption "libc-rial! it's .so good"
Someone said something about ingesting libc and this is what popped into my head
"No wind is favourable to the one who knows not to which port they sail."
Seneca the younger said it some 2000 years ago, and it still applies todayβto software, to government, and yes, especially to war.
to paraphrase a learned colleague: "How close are we to being done, on a scale of 0 to bullshit? Oh, a 7, great"
indeed, the "IranβPakistan relations" wikipedia article starts off by saying that the countries "have a complex relationship", which both:
β’ feels like an understatement, and
β’ is about as much as I'd be comfortable saying, given my lack of expertise with both countries π
I mean...not in the current conflict yet, as far as I know, but this happened two years ago

weirdly enough I had a similar problem on one of my feeds. I presume there was a hiccup of some kind? refreshing the page fixed it. π€
Doing research for my tech for good jobs posts always makes me want to yell at American companies that list "remote" roles when they mean "remote US".
Please y'all, other countries exist.
strong argument for Karma in this life, that the USA now comes to Ukraine with hat in hand, looking for help dealing with Shaheds

geez. wtf happened to Ms "I don't wake up every day looking for a way to sue Donald Trump. But we are 10 days in and I've filed three cases already"?
TiL: ΔeskΓ‘ Kanada exists ππ¨πΏπ¨π¦
New Orleans Pizza follows this exact same pattern as well: originated in the suburbs of Ontario, etc.
and they've backpedalled hard on their branding strategy any time the USA has done something politically unpopular π

omg, the ΔeskΓ‘ Kanada thing is amazing π
I once found this gem over in Pakistan. I assume the name is probably just for cynical real estate marketing purposes

apparently building a Hyperloop is indeed too Hardt a challenge to pull off π
worth remembering amongst all this, that TΓΌrkiye is a NATO member.

have been struck by lightning. despite this, we still outshot the other teams on the exercise π
hear hear. also, if the case can be made that TΓΌrkiye is under deliberate attack, that gives them a lot more latitude to take matters into their own hands. which I'm pretty sure is not what most other factions in the region want π«
(as an aside for friends who are also learning Japanese: imho "γΎγ γΎγ εεΌ·δΈγ§γ" is a super next-level response to "ζ₯ζ¬θͺδΈζγ§γγ". both humble and gracious π )
I'm also amused to no end that figuring out a good reply to "nihongo jouzu desu ne" is such a common issue, that there are actual mini-tutorials with suggestions π
this one's one of my favourites
www.instagram.com/reel/DAYjCXi...
similarly: knowing that "nihongo jouzu desu ne" is polite & heartfelt encouragement, not objective praise, is part of the language's cultural context
thus, ironically, knowing that "nihongo jouzu!" does not actually mean your nihongo is jouzu, is a sign that your nihongo is becoming more jouzu π
so. part of learning a language is learning its cultural context and nuances
one of my colleagues told me her shorthand way of assessing someone's Japanese fluency: how they say "no" to a request π
if they say "iie" ("no"): beginner
from there: the more indirect the response, the more fluent π
ngl, it amuses me to no end that there are tutorials on how to respond to "nihongo jouzu desu ne"
as in, that's how common an issue it is π

if you get a fantastic deal from one of the Gulf carriers and are ok with your flight being extensively delayed or cancelled altogther: maybe π€
if you need to get somewhere on any kind of reliable schedule: probably not π₯²
the parallels with Tim Hortons in Canada are uncanny tbqh
we don't like it because it's good so much as we like it because it's familiar π
