Font 21: CLEANERS is inspired by the Pride Cleaners sign in the Chatham neighborhood in Chicago. It was recently announced that Pride Cleaners would be closing, but hopefully the amazing sign and iconic building will be saved 🀞🀞🀞

It seems weird at first, why KFC from John Margolies?

This was toward the end of his life. Many of the things that seems quirky and distant to us from the 70s and 80s were as common as this KFC

John frequently photographed the everyday and ordinary places people might stop at while traveling

deltiologists deride the technical/artistic quality of the linen postcards popular in the 1930s & 1940s because the production process was much more mechanized

BUT before mass producing them, they’d hand-paint a mockup for customer approval, which are lovely little art objects themselves

This is a level of detail I rarely see in lino prints

My favorite prints are the ones you can keep looking at to discover new things, new worlds

And this is just that. nicely done

Linocut print featuring three Chicago bungalows.

The middle and right two flats are similar in appearance with square front bay windows and a ground level entrance. Despite the overall similar style there are many minor differences between the two, including castellated brickwork on the middle one.

4800 block of N. Kostner. All built in the early 1920s

Thanks for the reply

This should have been opt-in and not opt-out

Who is asking for something so distracting and predatory as bnpl?

feeling burned by bigcartel about this decision to opt in by default

Hi, sorry for confusion. That klarna thing is new from @bigcartel.com and I don't like it at all. I'll have to follow up with them

You can use regular credit card through the site. If that doesn't work send me a DM and I can work with you so it's easy

A linocut relief print of residential buildings in Chicago, featuring a mix of styles. Romanesque on the far left, light Neoclassical in the left and middle. And a store and flats and building on the right features a mostly classical ornament with some Victorian whimsical ornament.

The second building with ivy is colored green while the rest of the buildings are monochrome

Good-Bye to Architecture Twitter As people delete or abandon their Twitter accounts due to its changes related to content ownership etc. that begin today, September 29th, I thought I’d look back at some of the content I’ve provided o...

I'm glad I ran across this blog post from @chigeek.bsky.social about the old Chicago architecture Twitter scene and her impressive output on the platform. I've learned so much from her over the years and always felt like she's an essential follow.

Near me there are two bungalows and two tudors that are similar on the ground floor but with different roof profiles. The tudors have very slightly raised front landscaping too

Always wondered if a developer couldn't decide and chose 2 of each

The first place I worked in Chicago was at 321 N. Clark in 2013. I remember looking up the address on google maps when living in NC and noticing the Murdoch building and saw it was near the river

Had no idea you worked in the building too!
