The 2025 LNVH Women Professors Monitor is now available in English! Women now make up 29.9% of full professors in NL. An important milestone, though progress remains slow and uneven. The strong pool of women associate professors offers real potential for acceleration.

At the request of the LNVH, the 14 Dutch universities have set new targets for women professors for 2025 - 2030. These targets aim to maintain the progress made and move closer to equal representation across all academic positions. 1/2
Het aandeel vrouwelijke hoogleraren aan de umc’s is gestegen van 31,6% in 2024 naar 33,2% in 2025. Na het voor het eerst doorbreken van de 30%-grens vorig jaar, is nu met 1 op de 3 hoogleraren vrouw opnieuw een mijlpaal (zo goed als) bereikt.
The share of women full professors at the university medical centers increased from 31.6% in 2024 to 33.2% in 2025. After surpassing the 30% threshold for the first time last year, reaching the point where one in three professors is a woman marks yet another (almost) achieved milestone.
Voor het eerst is gemiddeld meer dan de helft van de leden van de Colleges van Bestuur vrouw: 51,3%. Deze ontwikkeling markeert een belangrijke mijlpaal! Tegelijkertijd blijft het aandeel vrouwen binnen de Raden van Toezicht achter op 44,9%.
For the first time, more than half of the positions on Executive Boards are held by women, reaching an average of 51.3%. This development marks an important milestone! At the same time, the share of Supervisory Board positions held by women remains lower at 44.9%.
Blijven de percentages vrouwelijke hoogleraren met ditzelfde groeitempo stijgen, dan bereiken we pas tegen het einde van 2040 een evenredige man-vrouwverdeling onder de hoogleraren. Kijken we naar de groei van de laatste drie jaar en baseren we daar de prognose op dan verschuift dit naar 2043.
If the share of women professors continues to grow at its current rate, gender parity among full professors will not be reached until late 2040. However, when projecting future growth on the basis of the past three years, parity is not expected to be achieved until 2043.
De Monitor Vrouwelijke Hoogleraren 2025 laat zien dat het aandeel vrouwen in met name de hogere academische posities nog altijd sterk afneemt per opeenvolgende functiecategorie.
Eind 2024 is het gemiddelde percentage vrouwelijke hoogleraren aan Nederlandse universiteiten 29,9%.
The 2025 Women Professors Monitor shows that the proportion of women, especially in the higher academic positions, still drops significantly with each successive job category.

The research, conducted by scholars at Erasmus University Rotterdam, examines the range of management roles fulfilled by academics, how they gain access to these positions, their motivations for taking them on, and how they experience recognition, power, and influence in these roles.
