Today we launched the beta of Sync Streams, our new partial sync architecture that is the successor to legacy Sync Rules.

Sync Streams is a flexible format that lets you define exactly which data from your backend can sync to each client using simple SQL-like queries.

Finally took the time to set up local instances of Supabase and PowerSync. Surprisingly simple to get up and running actually.

Also set up Cloudflare tunnels for them and the local Vapor server, so I can develop on real devices.

The Sync Streams beta release will ship several new query capabilities that were missing in Early Alpha — JOINs, CTEs, multiple queries per stream, nested subqueries, and table-valued functions — making it practical to express complex data access patterns cleanly.

This actually works now! Our work on docs improvements are paying off.

PowerSync Changelog: January 2026 AI tools are moving at tremendous speed (whatever happened to “prompt engineering”?) and while we might not always be shipping bleeding-edge integrations with Ralph loops or Moltbots, we are closely monitoring the space and want to support developers using these tools. We’re starting by revamping the PowerSync CLI which will form the foundation for our plans in this space.
