Multiple protein structure alignment at scale with FoldMason Protein structure is conserved beyond sequence, making multiple structural alignment (MSTA) essential for analyzing distantly related proteins. Computational prediction methods have vastly extended…

A team at Seoul National University (@martinsteinegger.bsky.social) recently introduced FoldMason @science.org—an open-source tool to compare MSTA of 1000s of proteins. We see big potential to analyze proteins w/ conserved structure & limited sequence conservation

Thanks for the question, @ruizhao.bsky.social! We anticipate them to be distinct for -alpha and -beta forms as our anti-NRXN3α was generated against the LNS1-EGF1-LNS2 region of NRXN3α (not conserved with NRXN3β), while our anti-NRXN3β was generated against the extracellular domain of NRXN3β.

👉 Across roles and experience levels, the most important traits of successful automation professionals were remarkably consistent: curiosity, adaptability, flexibility and a willingness to troubleshoot.

What did we miss? We’d love to hear your perspectives.

👉AI — and especially the combination of AI + automation — was a major theme. Many expected AI to enable and empower the workforce, but there was also skepticism about the pace of the progress and concerns about bias in training data.

👉 There’s a clear disconnect between job descriptions and the skills hiring managers actually need. We’ve joined an automation education guidelines working group, alongside representatives from Carnegie Mellon and Duke, to help bridge this gap.

👉 There is a ton of energy and interest in addressing workforce gaps in laboratory automation and broad agreement that the field isn’t limited by technology — but by talent availability.

What does antibody discovery mean at IPI?

It means using FACS and MACS to winnow a vast yeast synthetic library, with 10^10 unique sequences, down to just a few highly selective, tight-binding antibodies that hold potential as research reagents and therapeutics.
