Protein design: how scientists are creating tailor-made molecules to tackle major challenges | Science Arena
Using computational models and AI, scientists are developing proteins to address scientific and technological challenges.
"AI isn't smart enough to provide the ultimate solution to a problem, but it's very good at finding alternative solutions," says AndrΓ© Teixeira, senior director of the IPI #antibody platform. Read more from Teixeira and others in this Science Arena rundown on #AI and #proteindesign.

Multiple protein structure alignment at scale with FoldMason
Protein structure is conserved beyond sequence, making multiple structural alignment (MSTA) essential for analyzing distantly related proteins. Computational prediction methods have vastly extendedβ¦
A team at Seoul National University (@martinsteinegger.bsky.social) recently introduced FoldMason @science.orgβan open-source tool to compare MSTA of 1000s of proteins. We see big potential to analyze proteins w/ conserved structure & limited sequence conservation

Thanks for the question, @ruizhao.bsky.social! We anticipate them to be distinct for -alpha and -beta forms as our anti-NRXN3Ξ± was generated against the LNS1-EGF1-LNS2 region of NRXN3Ξ± (not conserved with NRXN3Ξ²), while our anti-NRXN3Ξ² was generated against the extracellular domain of NRXN3Ξ².

πAI β and especially the combination of AI + automation β was a major theme. Many expected AI to enable and empower the workforce, but there was also skepticism about the pace of the progress and concerns about bias in training data.
