Minneapolis City Council passes eviction notice extension from 30 days to 60. Same margin as in committee 7-5-1. Mayoral veto surely coming, and the votes aren't there to override it.

Voting no: Rainville, Vetaw, Warren, Shaffer, Palmisano

Abstention: Whiting

I was proud to author an ordinance in 2023 moving mandating a 30-day rental pre-eviction notice in Minneapolis.

Sadly, we’re barely going to pass the temporary 60-day notice tomorrow and then face the threat of a veto.

Thank you Saint Paul for being pro-human.

Weird but true: Shortly before the ICE surge, MPD added policy language about federal immigration enforcement to include a "duty to intervene and duty to report." But somehow we got through the last several months and MPD never intervened, never forwarded any cases to the county attorney's office.

Ilhan Omar (who both live in and represent Minneapolis) on one side and Craig and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey on the other. In her tweet, Craig credits her GOP opponents for their accuracy.

This is disgusting. There’s no accountability in the Sheriff’s Department.

This will continue to happen if Sheriff Witt runs unopposed. It will send a message that this is totally okay when it’s not.

And again, thank you to everyone who has donated and helped with deliveries and made all this possible.

We haven’t asked for donations as our networks seem pretty tapped out with the relentless needs in Minneapolis and the entire state. We appreciate everyone working to pay rents and stay vigilant!

We currently have enough donation money left to cover our four upcoming meal deliveries this week, meaning we’ve been able to do this for 8 weeks! That’s 2 months of intense cold, ICE occupation, and MPD evictions of unhoused people.

Thank you @christin612.bsky.social and @kevinmnye.bsky.social!

Time for another report on how we’ve been doing! As of today, we’ve spent nearly $18k at local, immigrant-owned businesses & have provided ~2000 meals to people experiencing unhoused homelessness or food insecurity.

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated, shared, or lifted up our efforts!

The biggest cowards in all of this is US Congress. Complete dereliction of duty. Can’t get them to do anything when the regime kills US citizens in my city. And they happily sit by as the war machine rolls into Iran.

Even if it means bombing schools.
