We are training undergrads (18-22) to digitize vcr tapes, cassettes, and vinyl. We introduce phrases like "rewind" into their vocab and made diagrams of what a tape looks like from 6 angles. And we get questions like "how do I rewind a record" which is understandable but turns my bones to dust.

I’ve heard a lot of things on C-SPAN, but that call was haunting. A brutal reminder of the real-world toll.
I routinely scream this sentiment into the void. I deal with this all the time with my asthma & migraine medications. I still get treatment disruptions even when proactive about asking for the doc to send in paperwork before the clock runs out. Insurance doesn’t care that breathing is important.
When a trans person’s ID doesn’t match their appearance, every interaction where they have to show that ID becomes a potential outing. A traffic stop. A job orientation. A TSA checkpoint. You hand someone your license and suddenly they’re looking at you differently, or asking questions, or worse.
Kansas just invalidated the drivers licenses of every trans person in the state. They’re being told to surrender their current licenses and get new ones listing their birth sex. No grace period. Get caught driving with your now-invalid license and you’re looking at jail and a fine.

I don't think this is off base--but combining media oligarchy with the collapse of local journalism, impoverished public media, and the hyper-capitalistic logics of our entire media/information/communication ecosystem--from social media to cable news--it's not looking good for any kind of democracy.
