Way to make something mundane appear exotic, I guess.
This was my primary means of getting to school when I was a kid. It was later ruined when they started to pour salt on the roads, making them more difficult to navigate, and also ruin vehicles. Yay, something...

A curious thing lately is that if I ask a question about something I don't know that well, I don' trust the answer unless it is from a person I know, and who I know is an expert in the topic.
A former colleague, who worked on boot loaders, was super happy when he finally was able to turn off an LED. He then had a means to observe behaviour.
Do as Harald says. Present! There's nothing that improves your code quality as much as explaining your ideas to a diverse group of geeks. I know my programming skills have improved a lot in the 10 (yikes!) years since I first stood on the stage at @SwedenCpp Stockholm.
What can go wrong when doing the intro:
Event #60, but #58 is in the same building, one floor below. Guess the number I said π
And stumbling over words from a 13-inch screen π³
Thatβs why we do meetups: do it, review, improve. Free food included.

and don't get me started on managers who cut off unflattering feedback.
Never ever give an incentive to cover up a mistake.
It's better to have an environment where people feel safe to say "sorry, I screwed up", than to have people try to hide it.
Why? Because every mistake is one we can learn from, and if the learning opportunities are kept away, we won't improve.
A young man is facing the camera, he's wearing a T-shirt that says "code babler" in a pixelated font.
A young man is facing away. The back of his T-shirt is XML saying "<bla>bla blla blah bla blah blablabla bla blablah</bla>"
I'm a fashion designer now π

Why do they teach us all this math at school when French Onion Soup minus Onion Soup does not equal France.
Exceptionally unscientific survey for autistic/otherwise ND friends: whatβs your experience of LED lighting? Please share; Iβm gathering informal evidence for A Thing
C++ help:
struct FooTag{};
using FooInt = StrongType<int, FooTag>;
using BarInt = StrongType<int, struct BarTag>;
ie "inline" forward declaration in second case.
I recall that Foo is better than Bar, but I don't remember why.
IIRC, because of some subtle change in ADL (it's always ADL).
Anyone?
And here I thought it was avocado toast that was the problem.
very important video please watch
LLVM 22.1.0 is out! This release was handled by new Release Manager Cullen Rhodes who I have had the privilege to mentor through this process. He did a fantastic job. Go checkout the release notes: discourse.llvm.org/t/llvm-22-1-...
Somebody already did. I distinctly remember that my beard used to be red/orange, and all pics I see now show grey beard ;-)

Don't mind me, I'm just going to go sit and stare at the wall for a few hours while my brain attempts to assimilate this crucial new information
You're joking, but I once had a project lead who wanted us to do things we all knew were wrong, so that we "wouldn't lose momentum".
π Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych has chosen to defy the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which prohibits him from using a helmet featuring images of Ukrainian athletes killed due to Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

Wheee
Would anyone argue that it'd be fair if a burglar got to keep a certain percentage of their ill-gotten gains?
If no, then why is it that Ukraine would have to compromise on anything? It's not like the burglar will be any less likely to do it again if he gets to keep 20%.
Terrific story about community.
You should've worn slippers, or at least flip-flops. The rest is OK (assuming it was intended to be a very short stay outside).
memory at 83% one application using 40GB
If your application uses 40GB of RAM to open a 300MB file, then you need to rethink your data structures a bit.
I once received a physical paper Nigeria scam mail delivered to my home. This was more than 20 years ago.
Today I received a more traditional email scam, where the message included my home address.
Uncomfortable.
