I think you’re missing a lot of context for my original post if you think my point was to show how powerful the A18 Pro is. Not your fault, but you’re barking up the wrong tree.

05.03.2026 00:21 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

And you can absolutely do "3D rendering, video editing, code compiling" on a MacBook Neo. It will probably perform similarly to an M1 in most tasks. And it will also probably be faster than any Intel Mac ever sold, all of which did "3D rendering, video editing, code compiling," if you remember.

05.03.2026 00:11 πŸ‘ 5 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Your first reply said this: "That A18 isn't suitable for the kinds of workloads that the M-class processors made for."

I think it should have said, "That A18 isn't as fast as an M2 or better in multi-core tasks." I would have agreed with that. But that's not what you said.

05.03.2026 00:09 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I was comparing to M1 only, because you said β€œM-class” and not any specific chip.

As for β€œperformance in short bursts,” have you benchmarked the MacBook Neo? I suspect it has very different cooling characteristics than an iPhone.

05.03.2026 00:06 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

And, no, it’s not the same thing as I said in my original post because I was responding to your post. In particular, I was rebutting your assertion that β€œmulti-core is a whole different ball game.” That’s why I provided information about multi-core performance.

05.03.2026 00:01 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

Geekbench scores vary by a percent or two in each run. The numbers I looked up had the A18 Pro 1% faster in multi-core. (8,531 vs. 8,441) But my point stands: β€œnot suitable for the same kinds of workloads as the M-class processors” is not a fair characterization.

The A18 Pro is also faster than the M1 in multi-core performance.

The A18 Pro in the MacBook Neo is 19% faster than the M2 Ultra in the Mac Pro in single-core performance (Geekbench 6).

The MacBook Neo starts at $599.

The Mac Pro, which is still for sale, starts at $6,999.
