Made a little (de-)glitch toy with quadtrees:

And I am awed & delighted by Pocket Boss (pocketboss.ch), also from Playables. So much wit and care packed into this. Every "puzzle" is a finely-crafted joke, and one in particular made me blush when I realized what was I doing.
HORSES cover with a banned from Steam logo
Our upcoming game HORSES was preemptively banned from Steam, with no path to appeal. The game will still launch next week on December 2nd and will be available on EGS, GOG, Humble, and Itch for $4.99. Here is a detailed FAQ covering what happened: horses.wtf/BannedFromSt...
6-year-old: I want to play that kids game with the people again.
Me: ...with people? What were they doing?
6-year-old: You... click the little white people to complete things!
Me: ...complete things? That's lots of games...
6-year-old: NO!! THEY JUMP IN HOLES!

Apparently Apple thinks sound in games "isnβt essential" if I read this right.
I'm pretty sure that some time ago, all the apps were silenced with the switch, and only recently some apps started to ignore it. I noticed it because I *never* want to play audio through the speaker except I'm actively switching it on, so now my speaker volume is always set to 0 to be sure...
Never thought about it like that, maybe that's right. It's just the default setting in Unity that no sounds play if switched to silent, and you need to add a plugin to override that behaviour. Maybe when the switch was introduced, it had a different meaning?
We regularly get support requests that the sound of the game doesn't work on iOS without headphones. Turns out everyone who has this problem has the physical side switch set to "slient mode" and isn't aware of that, since many apps just ignore it. Are we supposed to *also* ignore it?

probably itβs wrong to ask accounting software to be fun, but here I am
same here, thereβs definitely some complexity in interfacing with data from diff sources, but the part of accounting that is legally required for small companies around here is pretty generic and there *are* tools, they just feel like (or are) from the last century in terms of UX. just βnot funβ
for many things thatβs probably the best solution, as long as there are no (external?) people involved who are expecting to use the βrealβ software
It really seems to be the most simple kind of app imaginable to develop, but I guess itβs just so boring to make one so nobody capable of making a better one wants to spend time on that. I always thought thatβs a problem of our tiny local market, but maybe itβs a more universal issue
what the slop

A selection of images from games etc. Hannah Nicklin has worked on, a screencap or key art image from: Saltsea Chronicles, Black Mirror: Thronglets, Mutazione; and the cover of Writing for Games: Theory & Practice. Also featured two reviews. One from Eurogamer: 5/5 Saltsea Chronicles "Onwards you go in pursuit of your missing crew, then, your story diverging further from mine with every island choice, with every flick of the head or settling of the lips. Memories/Artefacts? Skeptical/Curious? And astonishingly, through all these moving parts, all this phase space, my story still made rich sense, and actually built to a truly devastating climax. Scream/Weep? Fittingly, for me, Saltsea Chronicles turned out to be a story about choices as well as a story made of choices. It made me think about the big decisions I make in life, but also the decisions that shape a life that I don't even notice having made. Ripples turning to waves and all that. You must play this. It's luminous." The second of Mutazione from Gamespew, 9/10 "Mutazione is a game that builds up relationships within a community you instantly feel a part of. The main story is secondary to the real drama and the heart of the town, but itβs necessary. Itβs extremely well-written, and the hand-drawn environments are beautifully designed. Die Gute Fabrik has crafted a sweet, powerful fairy tale that delves into the human psyche and allows you to reside there for five hours or so."

It's refreshing to know that this is the icon of an officially distributed Apple application in 2025. I really hope it will outlive the Liquid Glass era without any changes.
