Republican Leadership has no choice but to put aside their pride & work across the aisle in the Senate – as Dem. leadership has been trying to do since day one – to garner the votes for a sustainable budget that both parties can agree to. I encourage you to join me and call on them to do just that:
This intentional and prolonged stalemate is not productive for anyone. In fact, it is actively hurting our communities. It’s time to stop the political theatre and finish this job in the reality we govern in, where both sides need to be willing to make compromises.
Now, 100 days past our deadline, Senate Republican leadership said on the record they don’t have the votes to pass a bill that makes any progress for PA'ns – instead, they only have the votes to pass the EXACT same budget we passed last year.
Gov. Shapiro gave his budget address in February. Senate Dems shared wide support for that budget, & House Dems were on board too. Democratic leadership has been vocal about their willingness to collaborate across the aisle on a legitimate budget.
This means that instead of using our time to pass a legitimate state budget that prioritizes the needs of PA'ns, Senate Republicans have chosen to waste time on a complicated legislative maneuver to solve a problem of their own making.
