If you’d told me 10 years ago that a station would run a different woman composer every day for a month and still miss some of my favourites (Holmés, Williams, Poston) I’d lave laughed. Sure it may not be fast enough but good to celebrate a pretty big change in the way we see music history.
Looking forward to singing this wonderful music at our concert on Saturday 21st March with @jkaconductor.bsky.social and soloists Susanna Fairbairn and @joannaharries.bsky.social. Tickets available from: www.ticketsource.co.uk/harpendencho.... We hope to see you there!
Hobbes is doing ok though….
The greatest setting of the Stabat Mater (sorry Pergolesi).

All a black cat needs for social media glory is an appropriately colourful background.
And Mozzie is perpetually startled…😍
We've already missed a few of my favourites, but keep a special eye out for Avril Coleridge-Taylor on the 7th, Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel on the 10th, Maconchy on the 11th, @errollynwallen.bsky.social on the 13th and Ethel Smyth on the 31st.

“Another victory like that and we are completely done for.” (Pyrrhus of Epirus)
I love these lists so much (even if I feel a professional obligation to recuse myself...). An intravenous drip of enthusiasm and joy in an otherwise fairly depressing feed.
Is it an opera?

We're taking crucial steps to keep children safe in school, so they can achieve and thrive.
For the first time, schools must stock life-saving allergy pens. Allergy awareness training will be provided. Each school will have a dedicated allergy policy.

It's a great piece (though VERY hard in places)!
Out on May 15th! The Finzi is well-known of course, but the Freda Swain and Denis ApIvor concertos are real discoveries!
Sorry 😔 - writing sleeve notes as we speak….
Well the other way, strictly 😉. Gilbert specifically set out to create a form of comic opera that would be better than “bad translations of Offenbach”…
I'm sure not!
😕
Catastrophic (for me) co-incidence of World Book Day with Women's month means we have to come up with an "Inspirational *Fictional* Woman", identifiable from her costume. Please send thoughts, prayers and inspiration.
