Super cute!
Super cute!
I'll go one further. If you are in the ER with a friend who is in the ER being treated, I'll work with you to make up whatever needs making up. The only thing worse than being in the ER is being in the ER alone.
New paper out in Science Advances! I'm really (really) proud of this one. Let's get into it. doi.org/10.1126/scia...
A real fuckin' thin silver lining -- Uncle Sam definitely doesn't want my trans ass.
A small brown dog lays in some green vegetation. He is smiling up at you.
Emergency puppy picture
Hah, I said the same thing! It's a public service!
Super cute!
A small brown dog with his paws wrapped around a stuffed "croissant" toy that's almost as big as he is.
My lil guy LOVES this thing.
Don't forget to plug your KoFi. This is public service, dammit! I will PAY YOU MONEY so that I don't have to watch the damn speech!
I knew I could come into the replies and find someone explaining it for those of us that missed the reference. Thanks!
They were either highly literate or else they were LISP programmers ๐
Good morning, Raven. You look lovely today.
"Culturally normal" means "white, cishet." It's patriarchal white supremacy in a suit coat and hair gel.
Such a shame that their plagiarism machine built with plagiarism was plagiarized.
Grad school in a nutshell.
And I know, y'all have been screaming about this prick for a long time. He's done plenty of things that I thought were gross. Mea culpa for only figuring this frame out now ๐ซฃ /end
"Normal" means "white and heteronormative." It is patriarchal white supremacy wrapped in nice language and paired with Democratic rage baiting. And it is a signal that he does not recognize the inequities in this country or, even worse, doesn't care. He has no values except the pursuit of power. 2/
You know, I've finally figured out why Newsom bothers me. "Be more culturally normal" means "don't rock the boat." It means "don't stand up for the poor, the racial and ethnic minorities, the queers, the people who make white middle class voters uncomfortable." 1/
I hate how generative technologies have made it impossible for me to enjoy this kind of stuff any more.
/sigh it's cute, but I'm pretty sure it's AI generated. Look at how the cat's ball of dough grows in the last few seconds.
OH YES AND THE FIRST TWO EBOOKS ARE ON SALE RIGHT NOW FOR JUST A COUPLE OF BUCKS SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? Sheesh.
The best moment in the book is when the protagonist realizes what's happening and chooses to take back her own agency. (Swashbuckling ensues, of course.) Just fabulous -- I can't wait to read the next two. /fin
What struck me most, though, was how Valdes writes about being backed into a corner, forced to do things that go against your values because it doesn't feel like there's any other choice. And how corrosive that is to yourself and to your relationships. 2/
The book cover of Chilling Effect. A woman in a spacesuit dives through a portal after a small box. There are also cats in space helmets.
Okay, I just finished Chilling Effect by @valerievaldes.bsky.social and I gotta burble about it for a moment. Swashbuckling space piracy? Yes. Will they/won't they romance? Found family? Yes. Psychic cats? Yes. 1/
EXISTENCE IS RESISTANCE. This is what I tell myself when "just existing" is about all I can do ....
All the college and university "leaders" who chose to surrender in advance on this, take a bow
And then get in the fuckin sea
What a beautiful photo!
Hooded eyes and a brow like a neanderthal are the things that stop me from getting into makeup.
I don't subscribe to the The Atlantic, so I could only read the first two paragraphs. But my understanding of "meet students where they are" and the author's seem VERY different, and in my experience these arguments are too often used to justify gatekeeping and lazy teaching.
I KNOW RIGHT? I used to spend SO MUCH TIME crafting beautiful assessments....
