My step-grandparents also rock. Volunteering at the library, adopt-a-highway work, and family recipe cooking champs who were successful in life but never let money change them.
I had absolutely no shortage of aspirational figures in my younger days, and owe no small amount of my lot in life to 'em.
Since this is now a "Daniel's grandparents are amazing" thing, I must also mention my grandmas, who were no less amazing. One typed a billion words a minute in DC during the war, while the other was a math wiz and Dr. Mario savant. Both also raised four kids in the fifties while defying stereotypes.
One was a firefighter in his hometown who bowled a 300, while the other worked on the railways after coming home from combat in the Pacific in WW2.
