unrelated but i found it very funny how ikea's corporate network blocks your website because it's considered a "dating" website

I've been informed that Python uses neither passing by value nor reference but "passing by object reference" which 1) of course it does and 2) the examples hold for the point I wanted to make so yolo

Crash course: Rust references, borrows, ownership and lifetimes A quick introduction to how computers manage memory, what is a pointer, what are lifetimes, and how to deal with them.

I found myself repeatedly explaining the Rust memory model, borrows, lifetimes, etc., so I frankensteined together a few of my notes, added in some extra narrative, and here it is: crescentro.se/slides/rust-...

Originally I was quite miserable at the offerings. and this is in part because software discoverability in the Linux world is quite bad, and the best we have is Flathub.

I have to tread carefully here: I really don't like Flatpaks because I think they are fundamentally the wrong abstraction, but I also respect the work that went into them, think they are objectively a good idea and that Flathub is a well developed storefront. Still, with that said, my siblings in Christ you *cannot* prominently show me Katawa Shoujo on the front page of your store front. Like, yeah it's a good VN, it's insane that a bunch of nerds on 4chan managed to write something _that_ good, but since it was written by a bunch of nerds on 4chan it's also **full of literal sex scenes with barely legal high-schoolers**, you just **don't push that stuff onto the front page** as a storefront if you want to have any veneer of legitimacy.

i have to leave this on the cutting room floor but this flatpak / flathub mini-rant was too good to never see the light of day so I'll leave it here (and maybe elaborate on it another day)

my friend, who definitely is not autistic and definitely does not have adhd, took my medication for the first time today and said "well my brain is quiet and i can focus on one thing at a time rather than always multitasking, not sure what's so good about this"

I'm INFAMOUS for "making my own X" for deranged values of X.

BUT I will not sit by idly while friends roll their own linux distributions. You should just... go touch grass.

You know who makes a good linux distribution? Apple! It's so good, it doesn't even have linux in it.

SAVE YOURSELVES.

--without messing up the parser. no need to guess whether something is a nested object or a duration if you know exactly the shape of the data you want out, right? i hope this makes sense 🙃

feature request: please make it typed 🙏 every config language has types as an afterthought (in the form of schemas), meaning most people don't write them, no LSP, have to play shitty "config golf" to try and make it work. but if you started with a type definition you could even have bare durations--

I put "You're responsible for your contributions regardless of how you created them." in my team's repos at work, it generally works (though at work you can generally filter for people with brains which is not a given with a public repo)

for the two people who have Zen 5 CPUs, use NixOS, and want temperature monitoring, you can run zenpower5 from `main` with this: tangled.org/crescentro.s.... hope this finds and helps the other person!
