I cook every chance I can get as much because I enjoy it and I want the kids to know how they can make tasty food of their own from ingredients if they want. Not because microwave veg. or whatever isn't just as nutritious. (It may even be more nutritious depending on your cooking style...)

People who get sanctimonious about what's 'better' to eat have usually never even checked what's in those packaged foods because many modern pre-prepared/tinned foods are no worse than rolling your own, plus actually just keeping your child fed is worth far more on its own than many seem to think.

This episode took me out the first time I saw it because he very obviously would have pretended to be into scuba diving with space sharks if it gave him an excuse to escape that social situation, but then we almost immediately see him having ACTUALLY produced a saddle.

Of course it's really always tied up a lot in disdain for those traditionally feminine activities and complete disbelief that anyone could be doing anything meaningful at all taking part in them. 😬

Feels like a reflection of how women's lives are not seen as their own in some 'progressive' circles, but something they should use in the optimal way to benefit all women. I never liked that, nobody ever gave me a clear answer on why one particular opinion of the 'right' thing to do was the best.

Of course I think some people are susceptible to this even without Internet, technology just accelerates and intensifies those processes. But in the present-day world where everyone is forced to be online to some degree... 😬

As a teenager watching other teenagers online around 2000-2005 unfortunately. Used to think all the time, 'man, some of these kids running around unsupervised on here are going to be SO messed up as adults as a direct consequence of all this.' And it was mostly just forums back then!

This is the first time I'm learning that the jokes I've seen were not totally without context and I have to admit I got a good laugh out of looking up the context.

As far as whether it's 'lazy' or whatever goes, I've always thought anything easy-seeming about first person was deceptive. Easy to quickly get in the head of a character perhaps but super difficult to craft a compelling and unique voice. Almost like every style has its unique challenges!

First person present was really huge in dystopian reader circles I was in back in the day in the wake of Hunger Games among others. Maybe even part of why some romance authors are now utilising first person. But the audience of people who are contrary to trends or who don't care is still huge!

It's a sign of the times that AI companies are deciding whether or not to allow the military to engage in mass surveillance of US citizens and this is treated as a legitimate debate of two reasonable positions.

This is so real, as someone formerly doing postgrad AI research and interested in AI projects I looked into early generative AI technology years before most other people and it was just disappointing to me, like it's all inscrutable nonsense. Literally WHAT would I want to use this seriously for.

Grammarly is awful, I see their ads whenever my YouTube ad blockers fail and they're always showcasing examples of perfectly serviceable writing being made worse while the ad talks nonsense about why it's better. Doesn't surprise me they're running other scams now.

*I* resisted online banking until they made it impossible. I joined Facebook to help facilitate offline meetups and quit when it didn't. I worried about my fellow kids growing up in a constant haze of poster's madness. But sure, go off because you have a fairly tiny ICQ number.

I am a semi-old on this here Internet and let me tell my nonexistent audience it was obvious even in the fun old days that being online was potentially the worst thing ever as well as the best thing ever. But it was still a lot better before we forced everyone with no business here on here.

Look, 'you wouldn't be in my top 8' could be a sick burn under different circumstances but I don't think, 'I was part of the generations that mindlessly made ubiquitous the technology now ruining the lives of you and your unborn children,' is really a winner here. 😬
