I donβt think Trump and his people are capable of engineering βdistractions,β I think the mind-numbing chaos we see every day is straightforwardly the result of giving the dumbest, cruelest, most corrupt, most selfish people of a generation near-unmitigated power
The perils of using cardboard for art:
"Hashimoto explained that, because the sculpture was made from cardboard, cats kept...using it as a scratching post...What's more, he would find cats sleeping with it in order to keep warm..."
So, wait. Wait. Trump says the next Iranian leader has to be someone he approves if not outright chooses? What? Is he the world's HR director? JFC.
that the Trump administration is trying to shut down a leading AI company because itβs unwilling to develop autonomous murder systems is terrifying, and should be of grave concern to everyone in the world
I feel like it was around the same time that movie box office receipt numbers became part of the regular (not industry) news. It made me think, like why would the average American care how much money a movie made over the weekend?
Yeah, the footage Fox News used seems to have been from December
Tomorrow morning will remind me once again that we have a fuck ton of clocks in this house.
Iranβs people were facing a horrible shortage of water before the war began. If we are destroying desalination plants and setting fire to Teheran we are committing unfathomable crimes.
There's something deeply obscene and broken about the fact that Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth are bombing elementary schools in an illegal war of aggression, and there's still a sense among the opposition that it has to be explained in terms of gas prices in order to get American voters to care.
I think about this all the time. And for faculty in good jobs it still has some of that β I do enjoy knowledge making. But those are so so few and everywhere else the academe is indentured labor to a loan shark.
I've worked with registered dieticians. Mine started by looking at what I was currently eating. From there, they outlined the macro adjustments I needed (protein, carbs, fiber) plus calorie targets. From there, we definitely talked about what I liked and how to make that work. It was never punitive.
Didn't the time change used to be like a month later than it is now? I seem to remember it always happening during finals when I was in college.
There's a medical professional on social media who tracks Trump's dementia progression. He says that the low lighting is intentional so as not to overstimulate the patient. Persons with dementia are light sensitive, apparently. He explains it here. www.tiktok.com/@epistemiccr...
Newly released footage shows an ICE agent killing Rubin Ray Martinez, 23, in his car in Texas.
"He was shot at point-blank range through his side window by an ICE agent who was in no danger."

The Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE and Border Patrol, is using a broad web of surveillance tools β purchased as its budget has ballooned under this administration β to monitor, apprehend and intimidate the people it seeks to deport and the U.S. citizens critical of its policies.
Hegseth and Stephen Miller ridiculed "rules of engagement" and vowed this war won't be "politically correct." Now it looks like we may have bombed an elementary school. Hegseth/Miller's certainty that their version of "strength" would have support is imploding. 3/

If a US Senator wants the US to go to war against another country, he should introduce a war authorization and push for a vote in the US Congress.
Not subvert the Constitution to achieve that end.

I just keep coming back to this and how in a normal world this would be the end of any career who had anything to do with it.
brianmcginnisnc Brian McGinnis' wife has NOT been allowed to see him in the hospital. He is currently awaiting surgery for severe injuries. Legal counsel has also been denied access. A Marine veteran. A firefighter. A father of four. And his family still cannot see him.
so apparently Brian McGinnis has been denied access to both his family and legal representation since a sitting senator broke his arm
Colorado governor signal he'll commute sentence of election denier. Pressured by President Trump, Gov. Jared Polis said he is considering the release of Tina Peters, the last high-profile 2020 election meddler still imprisoned. His fellow Democrats are outraged.

If you won't act like an opposition party, we'll replace you.

Also, despite a crazy warm Denver winter, I rewarded my recent 70 lb. weight loss with a really nice, sporty down puffer jacketβsomething I never would have worn at my larger size. Today would be a great day to wear it, but Iβm very happy to stay indoors.
Snow falling in a residential neighborhood
I never thought I would feel so relieved to see snow.
"Wow. A big drop" -- CNBC highlights that labor force participation is now the lowest it has been since in late 2021, before the covid vaccine was widely available
ICE has arrested and detained a Nashville journalist who reported stories critical of ICE. Sheβs married to a U.S. citizen and has been seeking asylum here after fleeing death threats in Colombia because of her journalism there.
Theyβve already sent her to Louisiana.
I'm currently reading "Project Hail Mary." I was not prepared for math. There is so much math...
Not gonna share the video of Republican US Senator Tim Sheehy breaking a protesting Marine's hand, but you can find it on @charlotteclymer.bsky.social's timeline.
I'll just say that in a functional country, Sheehy would be expelled by the Senate.
Democratic Senators should publicly push for that.
In my defense, at some time long ago, I stated that I like fun socks, and I've been relentlessly showered with sock gifts ever since.
This morning I'm organizing dresser drawers. People, I own at least 200 pairs of socks. That seems like a lot. Possibly too many. Time to purge. Sending lots off to Trashie. What a thrilling life I lead.
