Last winter? What happened last winter?
It has generally performed fine over the last two winter seasons.
The Confederation Line catching strays in this article.. it didn't actually have any switch issues yesterday.
There is clearly an argument about how the lack of clear regulations results in inconsistent, and sometimes unnecessary implementations and duplicative costs.. but without a lot of context it's hard to buy into arguments like "barriers to stop people walking across busways and tracks are silly".
This is the same city that operated a busway without bollards at the ends of platforms for decades, and that ended in tragedy.
When it's easy imagine a tenuous safety argument for these kinds of barriers, calling them overbuilt is not a winning approach to an argument for affordability.
Their primary purpose at bus stations is to discourage people from crossing the busway, which would be a safety hazard. Most of the stations don't have fare gates at all.
