Tewkesbury mother jailed for keeping woman as slave for 25 years Mandy Wixon, 56, forced the victim to clean her squalid home and subjected her to a miserable life.

This is a horrendous case, and I tend to be of the opinion Wixon should get life. It highlights a big issue with the way modern slavery and trafficking is often treated as an "immigration offence" though. Most victims, in UK, are UK citizens abused by UK citizens. 1/4

We've fumbled this ball so badly. I imagined once it was accepted that anyone pregnant has bodily autonomy, I simply didn't think we'd have to go over it again.

Sure, there were always fringe nae sayers, but no meaningful opposition. Fascist voices have been mainstreamed.

'AI Is African Intelligence': The Workers Who Train AI Are Fighting Back Kenyan workers are still the underpaid labor behind AI training, moderation, and sex chatbots. The Data Labelers Association is fighting back.

I met with AI data labelers in Kenya who are organizing their colleagues to fight the brutal working conditions and horrible pay given to the workers at the "bottom of the AI supply chain." They believe the NDAs they've signed are unenforceable so are speaking out:

What do we do with duplicates?

The original and duplicate are placed in a Document Arena (or Docudomeβ„’), then we turn away from them and allow one to consume the other, unobserved. This is a double-blind trial, where we don't know which was the original. Thus, only the strongest document survives.

It is a mark of the dimness of the Trump cabal that they didn’t just order identical shoes in the correct size from the same website their glorious leader got them, and instead just accepted they’d clomp around in clown shoes for the rest of their lives.

Daily Mail Headline: Pupils' drawings could be blasphemous under Islamic law, Labour councils tell schools - while music and dance classes may go against the teachings of Islam

Oh boy! What a headline...

Ask yourself:

"What am I being asked to believe?"

"Who am I being told to blame?"

Take a few seconds to imagine what the Daily Mail (And Telegraph, GB News and Express) WANT you to think is going on.

Let's see what's ACTUALLY happening...🧡

So because #Ryanair in 2024 treated a passenger to a 13-hour delay and €890 in costs for a new flight, and then simply ghosted her, an Austrian court today impounded one of its airplanes at Linz airport. ooe.orf.at/stories/3345...

Good words of warning here. AI models are generally designed to read and incorporate (and, in a sense, believe) virtually everything they find online, with very few guardrails. The information can get divorced from its original source, context, & rebuttals or retractions. That's a really big problem

In 1983, Ruth Schwartz Cowan published a book called More Work for Mother where she argued that modern household tech (washing machines/vacuums) didn't reduce women's housework time, it just raised standards of domesticity. Household work is never shortened by tech & you can extrapolate that out.

Thousands of lawyers oppose jury restriction plan Lawyers including top barristers and retired judges urge the government to drop a plan to abolish some jury trials.

Lammy's plans smack of desperation after a jury acquitted some protestors. This isn't about justice for women. Women accused, often victims of abuse, will be denied juries too. And they may be up against a judge who lets off sex offenders for being "of good standing".
