Every major comms platform has to contend w phishing, impersonation, & scams. Sadly.
Signal is major, and as we've grown we've heard about more of these attacks--scammy people pretending to be something or someone to trick and abuse others. 1/

There's no magic wand you can wave and guarantee the security of anything stored online. Even large institutions regularly disclose breaches and leaks. Security is a cat-and-mouse game that's constantly evolving. It's never "over" or "solved."
Data protection is good. Data minimization is better.
The idea is that faulty policy that incentivizes or enshrines a method of compliance with inherent dangers you can never 100% mitigate leads to lots of businesses suddenly exposing users and themselves to a swath of all-new risks that weren’t previously in play.

The platform, which has more than 200 million users worldwide, says hackers had targeted a firm that helped to verify the ages of its users but the Discord platform itself was not breached. People can provide ID photos to verify their age on Discord - a networking hub for players to chat and share files with others in the gaming community. The leaked data may involve personal information, partial credit card details and messages that were exchanged with Discord's customer service agents, the San-Francisco-based company says.”

My impressions of the BF6 beta were that it was a big improvement over the 2042 beta, but that it didn’t feel like it was about to unseat BF3 and 4. We’ll see what things look like on full release.
BC1 and 2 were incredible for their time. BC2’s destruction physics especially!

Having spent the last decade covering dialogues on internet policy, I’m excited for the chance to be a part of one. The conversation unfolding now is urgent, nuanced, and vitally important to everyone who relies on the internet for knowledge. There’s no better time to jump in.
