Yep. “Knowing who to be mad at is praxis” is Mariame Kaba’s quote and it is wisdom for these times. (1/2)

a public utility does not need to turn a profit. this is intentional.
Oh, sweet! Looking forward to it!
I'm always ready for a thrilling weekend of opera innovation!
Unambiguous evil.
What I don't understand is why anyone asked Billy Corgan in the first place.
ICE invaded LA almost a year ago and there's been so much awful stuff happening elsewhere in the country that for folks who don't live here, it's easy to forget they never left us either. Shoutout to Memo and the entire @lataco.bsky.social crew for staying vigilant on this story. True heroes.
Oh, sorry. In that case, which Led Zeppelin song is about the largest body of water? (The answer might surprise you!)
The Wiggles.
Tweet from InternetHippo: "New right wing thing is describing crimes as generically as possible to pretend like they're not crimes. Someone gets convicted of conspiracy and they start yelling "Wow so it's illegal to make plans with friends now"
Feels of a kind with this phenomenon. The issue here isn't that some of the views expressed are different than the ones I happen to hold.
That said, I have to stress that I experience very little in the way of gender dysphoria, so being misgendered is not something that impacts me significantly. The only time I really care is in my art, or art that I'm a primary contributor to. As such, again, not sure how relevant I am here.
I'm not sure how equipped I am to answer this (I'm agender but don't identify with the label "nonbinary") but my general approach is to make pronouns and such easily available for people who want to know but beyond that I basically always let it slide.
Thirding this take.
I was really hoping I wouldn't have to retweet this a month and a half later about a completely different news event, but time makes fools of us all.
I tend to just say "educational content creator" but it's clunky. I've also heard "edutuber" for people who do that on youtube specifically.
Fun, short little research quiz for anyone who wants to click some buttons and help some researchers at the same time:
Personally I like technology but I understand it as something that 1) Reliably 2) Does something useful. That doesn't seem to be true for these chatbots outside of some limited applications but we're supposed to act like it is and saying otherwise is Luddism
I have yet to see any conclusive evidence that harmonic analysis works.
I assume they're just willing to throw their general reputation under the bus to protect the reputation of their AI system specifically, but if this was just a normal system that you purposefully built to do this...
Gavin Newsom & the New York Times are doggedly working to strip rights and human recognition from transfolk, while insisting anyone who *doesn't* share their obsession is obsessed with "pronouns". Trust no one who claims to oppose Trump while taking delight in bullying the same people Trump bullies.
Google apparently clarified that it wasn't an AI system that did it, which I think they think is exonerative but actually seems to make it a whole lot worse?
I just learned that there’s a type of building called a “famine folly,” and it makes me sad that somewhere out there, there’s a goth band looking for a name that doesn’t know that.
youtu.be/s7FDWao4t88?...
wanna know who made the deal that we could have a website not owned by Elon but we would be doomed to repeat the same four discourses until we bring the social media gods enough offerings of touched grass
Everyone's clowning on Sam here but this logic actually makes perfect sense if you believe the sole purpose of a human life is to answer inane questions from strangers.
Where's SMT happening this year? Debating if I want to go just to hang out.
In my experience, searching for "[song name] isolated [instrument]" on youtube almost always finds stems if they're out there.
me: i like this thing.
the internet: that thing sucks. you are stupid for liking it. i like this totally unrelated thing.
this is rude behavior. it is antisocial and weird. why are people like this. if you wouldn't do it irl it is rude to do it on the internet.
My one change is start with Small Gods, it's far enough in that he's figured out what he's doing, and the story stands almost completely on its own, so it's a good way to tell if you'd like the rest of it. Plus it's one of the best in the series.
