The kids always have a way of turning it back on you
Sorry, I implied that, but it definitely is!
Oh, thereβs an idea!
@jdart.bsky.social should have highlighted you in my article for being the fan of the meet π
It was a great performance all around, but it was the Red Rocks seniors who put on a show in their final act in the Huntsman Center.
www.ksl.com/article/5145...
FINAL: The Red Rocks get it done one last time at home.
Utah: 197.650
BYU: 196.550
West Virginia: 195.300
Sarah Krump: 9.850
Zoe Johnson: 9.775
Avery Neff: 9.850
Ella Zirbes: 9.925
Makenna Smith: 9.975
Sage Curtis: 9.900
Haha good luck following that freshie ...
Makenna Smith gets a 9.975 for that!
And she gets a standing ovation from the Huntsman Center crowd. What a scene right now.
The fans LOVE Makenna Smith so much. She gets a raucous cheer before her final floor routine at the Huntsman Center.
Ella Zirbes is inevitable on floor. She's had such a great stretch on this event. And if this isn't a 9.90+ ...
I don't even know, cause Avery Neff just got a 9.850. She was a bit low on her last pass, but ...
These last two events have had some really tight scoring. It hasn't been perfect, but definitely not getting any helps.
Sarah Krump with a standout senior performance on floor. That has to be up there with one of her best.
Going into the final rotation, the Red Rocks continue to lead big:
Utah: 148.150
BYU: 147.400
West Virginia: 146.350
Elizabeth Gantner: 9.725
Ella Zirbes: 9.750
Abbi Ryssman: 9.875
Ana Padurariu: 9.800
Avery Neff: 9.875
Camie Winger: 9.850
Wut?! The judges both return a 9.850 and the fans let them know with a hearty boo.
Camie Winger with a really solid performance in the anchor for the Red Rocks. Had a tiny hop on the dismount, but that's about it.
Not her best on beam (a small balance check), but Avery Neff delivered again on beam. She ends it with a stick in the 5th spot.
Fans are booing after she got a 9.75/9.85 split. I don't know about that one at all
What a night for Ana Padurariu on senior night. She's been so great and consistent this season.
She just barely missed on the stick, but everything else was great on beam.
Abbi Ryssman is and will continue to be so good for the Red Rocks for years to come. She's hands down the Big 12 freshman of the year IMO.
A couple big balance checks in the first two routines on beam from Elizabeth Gantner and Ella Zirbes, but they stay on beam. Both are sub 9.80 scores, though.
Nothing like a gun shot sound starting a floor routine in gymnastics ... especially after a really soft song playing while Elizabeth Gantner performed on beam.
At the midway points, the Red Rocks scored another 49.500 to increase their lead in the tri-meet.
Utah: 99.000
BYU: 98.375
West Virginia: 97.475
Makenna Smith: 9.925
Ashley Glynn: 9.900
Abbi Ryssman: 9.850
Ella Zirbes: 9.850
Ana Padurariu: 9.975
Avery Neff: 9.800
A smattering of boos after a big cheer when one judge turned a 10.0 and the other a 9.950.
But a 9.975 for Ana
Ana Padurariu hands down deserves a 10.0 for that bars routine. Wow! That was flawless.
Ella Zirbes with a flawless opening handstand on bars and ends the routine with a stick. She did go over a bit on her last handstand, though, which dropped her score.
OK, Ashley Glynn. Someone showed up on bars today. She had some leg separation that will take a deduction, but really solid event for her.
Really nice start from Makenna Smith on bars. I don't think that was the routine, but we need a 10.0 on floor from her on senior night. That's my simple request.
After the 1st rotation, the Red Rocks have a comfortable lead on a solid vault team performance
Utah: 49.500
BYU: 49.275
West Virginia: 48.700
Camie Winger: 9.875
Ella Zirbes: 9.925
Zoe Johnson: 9.900
Makenna Smith: 9.850
Ashley Glynn: 9.900
Avery Neff: 9.900
