If I had a nickel for every time Franz Ferdinand was involved in the precursor events of a world war, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird it happened twice

The Accessibility D.E.N.N.I.S. System
Let’s talk about performative accessibility. Accessibility can be a seductive marketing pitch, but it’s a pledge that few organizations actually put into process—leaving trusting customers out of pock...
Some of you may have read about NDS suddenly caring about accessibility last week—I’ll believe it when I see it. But it got me thinking about tech’s patterns of performative accessibility and the harm it causes and how it manipulates people who are trying their best.

I’ve taken this course and I really enjoyed it. I’ve been working with Web Components for a little while and @scottjehl.com helped it all make much more sense.

Optical illusion of a woman bent over some papers. Her sunglasses are pushed up and she is wearing a hair band so the top of her head looks exactly like a Muppet face

I used to use VirtualBox in the past, but it stopped working on my Mac after an update so I switched to Parallels. VirtualBox was also a pain when it did work. I’m much happier with Parallels.

Every time I hear “but the design system gives us accessibility out of the box,” there’s a record scratch and 1,000 kittens jump into a volcano and I have to use caps lock.

Seeing how this administration repurposes things that already exist (USDS: US Digital Service ➡️ US DOGE Service), is 18F now a fighter jet?

When a sitting representative refers to the Super Bowl halftime show as “pornography,” people should use that to reflect on how they and other representatives are simultaneously working to ban, censor, and restrict “pornography” and what that actually means

From Airbnb to the White House: Joe Gebbia is reshaping the government in Trump’s image
The president decimated the U.S. government’s digital design agencies and replaced them with a personal propaganda czar.
This entire article is excellent with plenty of quotes from people I’ve worked with directly and admire.
A great criticism of National Design Studio, Gebbia, and what design and aesthetics actually mean as critical services are actively dismantled.

The Wall Looks Permanent Until It Falls
On the optimism of preparation in a time of democratic decay.
"The wall looks permanent until the day it comes down."
data4democracy.substack.com/p/the-wall-l...
Several people I know have used the word "beautiful" for this piece, and that's exactly right. A beautifully phrased essay on the bind we're in— until we aren't.
Recommended, in an extreme way.

Honestly can’t think of any other way to travel. Is it comfortable? Yeah. But nothing worse than getting sick when taking a trip you’ve already invested so much into. Also, just being sick away from home really sucks.
