Specifying the size of the basketball killed me

An incredibly useful feature with an absolutely unhinged list of objects.

We should have never legitimized gambling or outsourced our thinking.

We cannot and should not let generative AI take away these tiny, insignificant, but probably fun as hell jobs from artists

27.02.2026 06:11 ๐Ÿ‘ 12036 ๐Ÿ” 3308 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 59 ๐Ÿ“Œ 43

Lol. Lmao, even.

26.02.2026 04:38 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

If it were truly that bad, so enormously awful as if to doom the whole ecosystem, why hasn't there been significant effort on a viable alternative?

26.02.2026 03:09 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I feels very similar to launchd to me.

26.02.2026 02:34 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

That's great! So with so much choice why these nerds still feral about systemd?

26.02.2026 02:33 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

This is the kind of radical thinking we need, not just endless "ew systemd"

26.02.2026 02:32 ๐Ÿ‘ 3 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Also lmao at numpy. I never thought of it like that.

Oh don't get me wrong, Poettering is a shithead.

26.02.2026 02:31 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Both monsters who really should've been separate projects tbh.

26.02.2026 02:31 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

It was both for me. I hate bash scripting. I find it inscrutable.

26.02.2026 02:30 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

This is unhinged and I'm fascinated

26.02.2026 01:01 ๐Ÿ‘ 8 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Okay, that is fair and I've said elsewhere that I really wish they'd separated the init daemon from the rest, because the init daemon is great. Other parts of the project are great too, but yeah, everything being under one giant umbrella makes it harder to digest.

26.02.2026 01:01 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Ohhh boy a live one! What's the alternative?

26.02.2026 00:47 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Oof that sucks, but also I'd rather deal with that than the nightmare of init scripts that came before. Debugging those was awful.

26.02.2026 00:46 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I mean, there is though? There's still distros using init scripts. It's just more friction, which, like, yeah, that's Linux!

26.02.2026 00:46 ๐Ÿ‘ 4 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Oh? Other than systemctl and journalctl for reading logs, what else do you usually run into?

26.02.2026 00:44 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Idk I'd rather rip off my own toenails than debug bash init scripts again.

26.02.2026 00:43 ๐Ÿ‘ 4 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

We are the same

26.02.2026 00:42 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

This explains why I just had to go and break my tailbone...

25.02.2026 20:40 ๐Ÿ‘ 3 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Y'know, you're right, Joe. I need to find something obscure to be mad about so I can reestablish my Linux cred.

25.02.2026 20:40 ๐Ÿ‘ 14 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

How are Linux nerds still so butthurt about systemd?

25.02.2026 20:15 ๐Ÿ‘ 44 ๐Ÿ” 1 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 22 ๐Ÿ“Œ 1

I still haven't gotten that ribeye.

I own the house. It's not like I'm just gonna up and move. I might be here longer than the Sam's club lmao.

@thea.codes bought her house 4 years ago this spring and we found out recently celia never saved her address and has been navigating to the sam's club around the corner and going from there

Especially since it can't be that old, kicanvas doesn't support anything before 6.
