I wholeheartedly agree, I used to know several of my favorites. It was just a thing one did, almost automatic. Like a poem? Memorize it. Im inspired, i need to get back into that practice~

The 300+ year time jump makes the series essentially two duologies in the same universe, which is jarring for many. And book two basically ends the story of the hegemony

Endymion was a very *different* kind of scifi, post collapse, heroes journey arc of spiritualism

The Hyperion cantos was a formative document in my growth in science fiction. The quadrilogy explores ideas in an epic scale of space opera that has never been matched.

Independent of the author, the cantos will continue to be a cornerstone of unmatched unabashed science fiction.

Having read this one and the sequel I can tell you the “scifi” aspect is pretty soft. Reads more like fantasy than anything, like a magical school premise that gets progressively more fucked up

Basically, I found myself writing the same kinds of stories, the same characters, the same stakes across a bunch of short stories and in my manuscripts. I needed a serious shift or I would have been doomed to write the same story over and over again forever~

Moving has a way of throwing any semblance of a schedule into total upheaval, but also, breaking you out of a funk, pushing new ideas and new perspectives—which I hope to have time to write eventually…

Yeah it’s been such a smoother process putting in the legwork on characters diagrams, plot circles, world details, etc the edit process was 10x easier on this one because I had a better grasp of what was at stake

That’s fair, my sense of clarkesworld covers is they’re always very bright and high key, almost like a vision of post-collapse solarpunk

Edits done, manuscript with beta readers, month and a half deadline. Feeling like an empty nester!

All I want to be doing is DRAFTING, but I have considerable prepro work left on my next story idea before I can properly dive in 😩

I was always fascinated with the concept of wall facers
