An ordinary Friday night in Ukraine: the irony of having a bout of insomnia, listening to a podcast about the Chechen wars, only to be interrupted by ballistic missiles and drone exploding outside...
🔴 In the ongoing large-scale attack launched by Russia against Ukraine, missiles & drones target Kyiv & other cities.
In the city centre of Kharkiv, a missile directly hit a high-rise building & caused significant destruction. There might be people trapped under the rubble (Mayor Terekhov).
NEW: The US and Israel are striking Iran’s drone and missile facilities to reduce the pressure on missile and drone interceptors – a capability the US is denying Ukraine by refusing to provide Tomahawk cruise missiles.

🔴🇺🇦 200 Ukrainian prisoners of war have been liberated during an exchange today.
Among the people returned are defenders of Mariupol, Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv and Zaporizhia.

The Ukrainian team has been banned from wearing uniforms featuring a map of Ukraine at the 2026 Paralympics. The IPC claims the map is "political."
At the same time, the russian team includes former soldiers who took part in the illegal invasion.1/2

🇺🇦 I highly recommend watching 'The Last Prometheus of Donbas' to understand not just the plight of Ukrainians under Russia’s daily war, but more specifically the incredible work of energy workers across the country, who work 24/7 to repair Ukraine’s infrastructure, constantly targeted by Moscow.

Director Anton Shtuka presenting his film. Red seats in the front, behind him there is a cinema screen with the poster of his film.
This isn't an ordinary documentary about the frontline. It shows the heroic work of ordinary men & women who accomplish extraordinary repairs while knowing they are being targeted daily by missiles and drones.
We in Ukraine survived this winter without freezing completely thanks to their work.

Anton Shtuka's documentary chronicles the closure of the Kurakhove powerplant in Donetsk region through the eyes of its workers, portrays Donbas through the experiences of its inhabitants, who stay as long as they can—until they have to leave, or must face occupation.

I'm struggling to understand the present-day "peace through strength" concept — where some dictators are eliminated, while one particular dictator is offered generous business opportunities and full impunity for genocide.
I couldn’t help but analyze the russian gaze and the obsessive compulsion of russian intellectuals to write about Ukraine: open.substack.com/pub/vika4goo...
NEW: The fifth year of Russia’s invasion is not beginning well for Moscow. Recent Ukrainian successes on the battlefield disprove Russian claims that things can only get worse for Ukraine the longer Kyiv delays surrendering to Russian demands.

🎧 Ces quatre dernières années en Ukraine ont été marquées par des violations du droit international, des crimes de guerre, des crimes contre l'humanité. Comment, dans ce contexte, aborder le travail de mémoire, et celui de justice?

4 years of war. Over 1M russian soldiers lost. $500B+ spent. Since 2023, russia gained just over 1% of Ukraine’s land - at a cost of hundreds of thousands of lives and billions per year.
What could that money have built instead? The numbers tell the real story:

🇺🇦 Soirée à Kyiv: comme mon quartier est en blackout à cause des frappes russes, je continue le travail à la frontale, avec un thé car le gas fonctionne encore et une jolie carte de l'Ukraine souveraine en arrière-plan🤞
Oh, look, the Russians have once again “sensationally discovered” nuclear weapons in Ukraine.
It had been quite a while since they last “uncovered” yet another “dirty bomb” or a network of “biolabs” and I was starting to worry.

🇺🇦 Four years of Ukraine for me, & the worst of times to discover the best of places, but I will never regret being here.
I am honoured to call Ukraine home & to live alongside people who show the world what dignity, bravery and freedom truly mean, in the heart of Europe.
There will be better days.
Quatre ans.
🔴 According to the Ukrainian think tank DIXI Group, over the past four years, Russia launched 12,700 attack drones and 2,900 missiles against Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

Indeed, and while I am talking about those official figures I also do highlight daily in my reporting what is happening in occupied territories, including in Mariupol.
