The book explores the life and career of Teissier, a Mexican theater actor during the Porfirian era.

They received their draft letters in Mexico, and none of them refused to defend the nation that rejected them because of who they were. That’s part of the US history not included in the whitewashed US history books.
And many of the Mexican American soldiers who defended the US during WWII were the US-born citizens, children of Mexican immigrants, who were sent back to Mexico during the massive deportations in the late 1920s and early 1930s.
During WWII, most medals were awarded to Puerto Rican, Mexican, and Mexican American soldiers.
So the issue is not Spanish or English, but the multiculturalism and multilinguism that some in the US refuse to accept or are afraid to accept.
In 2015, the US Census Bureau published a report about the languages spoken in the US. According to that report, 350 languages are spoken in US households. If that is not the definition of a multilingual nation, I don’t know what else it can be.

I cannot support WaPo anymore. It is time to support independent journalism.
However, I cannot support The Washington Post anymore after the recent cuts and editorial changes. I was a WaPo subscriber for a long time, even before Bezos bought it. I believe in the critical role of sound and credible journalism in society.
As a former journalist, I understand the importance of journalism in democracies. For decades, I have supported several US newspapers by subscribing to them, including those from other countries, because I can read English, Spanish, and French.
