Solidarity with students at Iranian universities bravely continuing the protests against state brutality. Among other things they remind us of the importance of universities as spaces for expressing dissent and for striving for social transformation.

We're interested in:
- the relations between spatial and sonic governance
- how certain kinds of sound are taken to have cultural and economic value in gentrifying cities
- how different sonic aesthetics and conceptions of aesthetic value shape urban inclusion and exclusion
Please share the CfP!

"epistemic pollution"
I recently read the work of my LU colleague Carl-Johan Palmqvist, a philosopher of belief, "non-doxasticism" and misinformation. A key point wasn't just that misinformation leads to false beliefs but that a context of fake news and AI imagery makes it harder to ever be sure of anything.
Kieran will share his reflections on the Global Sumud Flotilla at this event in Lund on Monday (Josephson building, 19 Jan, 16:15-17:45): www.kultur.lu.se/en/the-depar...
I don't know where in the continent you're going to be but could you be interested in fiting in a trip to Lund, Sweden on or around 14 April? We're putting together our musicology and intermedia studies seminar series just now...

The cover of the book "Sleepless Plains: Fossilisation and Peasant Kinship in Scandinavia" by Simon Halberg, featuring an abstract landscape artwork with a vivid red and orange sky.
Was at Simon Halberg's successful PhD defence this afternoon. His thesis is a work of rare quality, quite a page turner, with a fantastic central argument and focus. It's free to read online and should interest historical and landscape geographers + many others! portal.research.lu.se/en/publicati...
Four postdoc fellowships at the Turin Humanities Programme on legacies and interpretations of the Enlightenment; applications welcome by 16 Feb 2026.
Looks so good. What's your Christmas cake recipe?
I was amazed by the quality of the contributions and discussions at this event last week. I've never heard such thoughtful Q&A questions, for example. I learnt so much and have lots to think about. It was great to host and get to know so many wonderful people. Missing you all already ❤️

The idea of sonic citizenship also got a mention at the launch of this book and sound art installation this evening. Seems to be pushing forward interesting discussions about sound in/and public space

"In order to go on the flotilla, I had to make my peace with the reality that I will probably never meet my brother. Do you ever make peace with something like that? I don’t know, but I was trying. Then I was transferred to a prison where he’d been tortured." novaramedia.com/2025/10/13/i...
