Really important thread:
I feel like "attention hacking" is most of politics now. The Minnesota aid fraud story is becoming a perfect example.
Recap: In 2022, the Biden DOJ filed the first charges against dozens of fraudsters, many of them Somali-American, who'd fleeced a state food aid program. (1/x)
You can't solve a problem, if you don't notice the problem.
Zohran's relentless disciplined campaign was truly impressive - he brought every message/issue back to the cost of living and built a model for what bringing attention to a positive affordability message can look like
Proud to have Blue Rose do ad testing for the Zohran IE!

You absolutely love to see it: "[Commissioner] Slaughter remains a rightful member of the Federal Trade Commission until the expiration of her Senate-confirmed term on September 25, 2029[.]"

Tweet from Jonathan Lemire: The Trump administration has given the order to incinerate food instead of sending it to people abroad who need it Nearly 500 metric tons of emergency food-enough to feed about 1.5 million children for a week- are set to expire
America is literally burning a million pounds of food at taxpayer expense so Trump doesn’t have to give it to hungry kids across the world.
@sarahlongwell25.bsky.social: “Democrats' messaging is breaking through. I'm listening to voters in the focus groups — they're saying back what Democrats are putting out there, which is they are cutting your programs, programs that benefit you in order to give tax cuts to very rich people.”
Scoop for @reuters.com: On Friday, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission will stop collecting data on injuries from incidents like car accidents and adverse drug effects due to staff cuts at the CDC.

The discourse around tariffs has been “things will get more expensive” but I am here to tell you that I am knee deep in reporting on this subject and I strongly suspect that if super high tariffs endure, it will shift to *certain items cease to be available at any price*
60 Minutes found no criminal record for 75% of the Venezuelan migrants the U.S. sent to a mega-prison in El Salvador. https://cbsn.ws/4lC4Vp5

“We have to create more space in our tent,” she told me

This list is so long and taking up so much real estate in his speech it’s almost like they want to distract from their massive cuts to Medicaid
I have literally had to wheel clients into Social Security disability hearings on multiple occasions
For an ignorant buffoon like Elon Musk to insinuate the system is a Ponzi scheme is not only infuriating
It’s a 5 alarm level threat to every American who gets benefits

Cutting Medicare and Medicaid is wildly unpopular. That's why they're trying to jam these draconian cuts through right out of the starting blocks, before the American people tune into what's happening.
We need to buy time.
Those "surgical" and "targeted" cuts to health agencies the Trump administration promised?
They included people working on emergency preparedness (including birth flu), Medicare, Medicaid, medical devices, maternal health and more.

Alsobrooks: "Does cutting Medicare lower the cost of eggs? I don't think so. How does slashing funding at the Social Security Administration cut the cost of gas? ... this man is hurting people who voted for him."
Feels like a good time to remind everyone that if you are a public servant wishing to report retaliation, acts of corruption or abuse of government power, I have a page for that on my website: www.wyden.senate.gov/whistleblowe...
No mystery what we're seeing here:
-Illegally withholding spending/nullifying contracts
-Purges of law enforcement and prosecutors
-Taking bribes for lenient treatment while threatening enemies with persecution
-Pardoning violent/paramilitary allies
-Granting vast powers to an unelected billionaire
Good surprises since 2020:
Old people became way more Democratic
EC bias declined
R's have nominated terrible candidates
Bad surprises:
Zoomers are really right wing now
Tech moving right
Non-white support cratered faster than I thought it would
TikTok has been really bad
Fox Business reports that cutting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid is "on the table" for Republicans
