I actually use Libby to get food magazines on the ol' tablet to avoid this too. You can even set subscriptions and get push notifications. You can also get European cooking magazines depending on your library. Libraries! They are neat!

This is the entire Midwest. Slight variations here and there but when it's cold and dark by 4pm, this just happens.
