Fun Fact about me. In 2015, I was asked to identify M&A targets in the interactive streaming video space. My top two choices were BAMTech ($300M) and Musical.ly ($50M). You know the first as the tech that became Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ for $3.5B. The second is currently called TikTok.
Just took my daughter to the mall to spend some holiday gift cards. It was PACKED! From the parking lot to the food court and everywhere in between. Tons of teens, families, grandparents. Eye opening.
Spend shifts regularly. That's what happened with X. Everyone is rightly up in arms about the filter deprecation but the real story is AI profiles producing fake content. Literal bots.
Between Meta beginning the journey away from Brand Safety and the TikTok ban increasingly likely, Paid Social and Influencer budgets are going to take a massive hit in 2025.

An image from the Sony PlayStation Blog about the latest content from the game Helldivers 2. The text reads: The Illuminate are spreading through mind control, abducting citizens of weaker dedication to democratic ideals and brainwashing them for a dark purpose which is still yet unknown to us. These mind-controlled citizens have been twisted and corrupted into a menace we call The Voteless-Super Earth's own people turned against the principles of Democracy and fair elections, losing their ability to vote entirely.
Interesting description of the latest DLC for the game Helldivers 2. The (incredibly awesome) game heavily riffed on the Paul Verhoeven film "Starship Troopers" and now takes inspiration from John Carpenter's "They Live" - both films were not so subtle jabs at "conservative" political movements.
Such a festive latte!
I think we have a binding commonality in that all of our civilian friends and family hate advertising. We know what it is to be loathed en masse. That makes us immune to criticism and stubborn in our determination.

Jake Paul didn't land a solid punch on a slow and unbalanced 58yo. I suspect he'll move on to some other YouTube hobby, like home flipping, clothing hauls, or crochet.
Netflix is starting to collapse under the load.
That was one heck of a fight!
This Tyson/Paul fight is off the hook! An ironically deaf Evander Holyfield and Rosie Perez color commentary...I can't wait for 80's TV legend Alf to come out of retirement for the play by play!
Unlike Jake Paul tomorrow, it will be fine.
MΔori MPs briefly suspended the Aotearoa parliamentβs attempts to reinterpret their founding treaty in the most bad ass use of the Haka Iβve ever seen.
