The lobbying comes as the EU, the largest donor to Palestine and biggest export market of Israel, has found itself shut out of negotiations over Israel-Palestine while the Board of Peace has sprawled in scope to potentially rival the UN.
Meeting minutes, got under FOI, reveal TBI was “convinced that [the] EU will have a role at the BoP” and that the US has demonstrated a “willingness to work with the EU and [is] open to negotiation.”
During a video meeting before Christmas, lobbyists from TBI informed Henrike Trautman, a senior EU official, that “the EU should not be shy and has a prominent role to play in Gaza”
TBI was shown by @ftm.nl to be part of post-war planning for a Gaza Riviera. TBI first denied the reporting & then walked back denials. TBI staff told @lighthousereports.com that Gaza had become “taboo topic” creating huge disquiet.
The Board seeks to control reconstruction efforts in Gaza. Former UK PM Blair was recently named a member of its executive, alongside billionaires and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. Trump chairs the Board with no term limits
Minutes, obtained by @ftm.nl & shared w/@lighthousereports.com & Democracy for Sale, show TBI pushing Gaza’s biggest donor to engage with Trump’s Board – which has no Palestinian representation.
Lobbyists for the Tony Blair Institute privately urged the EU to support and join Donald Trump’s Board of Peace, an initiative which started life as a council to oversee Gaza & sprawled since into a rival to the UN
