Can confirm, great bike.
I swear there is a head wind in every direction today! A cold one at that π₯Ά
An indoor bike parking facility with two rows of Sheffield stands completely full of bikes
Busy day in the bike shed today. Not bad considering it was a wet and windy day, we are going to need a bigger shed come summer!
Nice, even!
Nick boots π
Ooh yes can't be doing with a draught around me neck!
Photo of me on my bike wearing a bright yellow hi Vis trousers, green loose trousers and shiny black patent boots.
What I'm wearing on my bike today:
Waterproof jacket as rain threatens π©
Green @lucyandyak.bsky.social trousers that always remind me of a vet's uniform π
Shiny black boots
Flowery neck muff from Saltrock
Oh I love dungers π€©
In too much of a rush to obey the speed limit, but has time to stop and beat up a pensioner.
What a ****.
Although I'm not convinced (certain!) that the average person knows the difference between the different signs.
Yes advisory.
Quite!
There's a "main" road here with a SEND school on it, buildings either side of the road. It's a 30mph road. At drop off and pick up times only, there are flashing signs indicating a 20mph limit. NOBODY takes the blindest bit of notice of them.
We can't design everything to account for psychopathic dickheads, though. Not without hugely degrading our public spaces, compromising convenience and amenity for anyone outside of a car, and requiring huge subsidy from the public purse. Oh, wait.... π€¦
We didn't escape Europe just to have their forrin measurements imposed upon us!
I'm trying to think of a scenario whereby it would be less safe for everyone to be driving at 20mph instead of 30mph. Where everybody's been chased by flesh-eating zombies, perhaps? Escaping an oncoming wild fire? A herd of wildebeest?
But even that doesn't preclude the national default speed limit on roads with street lights being 20mph! There would be nothing to stop local authorities from making exceptions for "unsuited" streets where 20mph would be "unsafe"...
Can you imagine any scenario in which this would be feasible today in the UK?! Even if there was good infrastructure the whole way, there's no way all the parents would agree to it due to "concerns" and half the kids wouldn't be physically fit enough.
You're probably right, once you've filled up it's basically a sunk cost. The threat/reality of petrol shortages may have more of an effect on unnecessary car use than cost rises.
I'm looking forward to seeing what price per litre petrol needs to be before people stop engine idling whilst parked...seems like it must be way too cheap at the moment π
Ah, I dream of this area becoming an LTN, it is so well-suited. So many of the surrounding streets are rat runs and it makes e.g. walking to school very difficult for the many children living here.
Maybe...I'm not sure! Could be a Google/Waze issue I guess. I think it's as much that the main road does often get congested, so people are in the habit of finding an alternative route (and there are many - it's a right rabbit warren)
Same street as in the earlier post, houses both side of the road, a few parked cars, and virtually no traffic driving through. It's very misty!
Same street about an hour later... (Still a bit of a rat run but much, much less traffic off-peak)
This is a slightly disadvantaged neighbourhood so yes, too right they deserve to have all this traffic going past their front doors! π
Photo of a wide main road with much less traffic on it than the snarled up rat run described in the previous post.
Meanwhile, a more suitable classified main road runs parallel, just 200m ish to the north. And is free flowing! Make it make sense...
A queue of traffic along a narrow residential street disappears into the distance.
The heavy traffic cannot sensibly negotiate the various traffic calming features which were put in to control traffic speeds and to try to discourage motorists from using the route as a rat run...it's not working!
Another day, another entirely unsuitable residential back street being used as a rat run...
I've had it for years! I think I got it from Lakeland. Really helps make a good pie βΊοΈ
Well that is terrifying.
I sympathise - I have done various big renovations (including kitchen)... It's worth it when it's done!
A pie fresh out of the oven, with lovely golden puff pastry on top. A blackbird shaped pie funnel pokes through the pastry.
Update: also made a pie π
