Either a gratitude practice, or a prayer for the bubble to burst! :)
Ah you probably mean the heat generating spacebar that keeps children warm in the winter.
Sorry, my refactors add up to at least a frostbite.
(xkcd1172 for the confused readers out there)
"We have no clue what cascading effects this seemingly simple change has" is my favorite debt. Fixing data models is a hard battle, but this? This is a poisoned well.
I'm still reviewing AI code like a caveman. And boy is it arrogantly wasteful, reeks of ignorance of what's possible with the framework (Symfony in my case). Inserting avalanches from css-tricks.com and pre-jQuery JavaScript.
Makes you question what's the point of bragging about 10k+ lines per day.
This only applies to highly motivated tech-savvy communities, which I understand the CentOS people are, but it is rare.
So where did you migrate to? Rocky/Alma?
A tale old as software itself. Adobe and Microsoft massively benefited from privacy. And smartphone users are en masse rejecting any app that costs even $0.99
But it's expensive to maintain all this crap _and_ do the right thing in licensing terms. So the open src biz model is not in a good shape.
irl git blame
I understand why the community felt betrayed. I thought it was a rug pull too. But CentOS Stream is still a solid foundation for the price tag, plus individuals can still get RHEL for free. Out of all the greedy bait-and-switches in open source, this actually made sense to me.
Wife approval is the highest form of SLA.
They have more than 400 customers just from the Fortune 500, so please.
Plus you're moving the goalpost, the source is still there, IBM didn't kill anything. No open core BS like so many other examples.
os-update on opensuse. Installs updates and reboots my NAS daily.
renovatebot for dependencies in git repositories. Keeps those Docker base images fresh.
System-upgrade-plan in k3s. I never had to deal with kubernetes versions, yet it's nice to be on a recent LTS release knowing how fast it moves.
If your definition of ruining CentOS is "I no longer get downstream binaries for free", then yes we disagree.
That's quite a stretch. And of all IBM acquisitions, Red Hat seemed exceptionally well-insulated to keep working on their vision. Other than the CentOS fiasco, what truly changed?
Everyone is quick to reply with their favorite economic and governing models, but all are doomed to fail in the long run without a stabilizing moral framework. Gotta fix the incentives!
Actually not a bad idea, I'm gonna add "building" sfx from Red Alert. Thanks Max
... and at the same time being billed per word fragment and asked for passwords.txt.
I'm happy you happen to have a postal address close to a mathematical average, and how you presented this problem space is enough proof for me that you barely worked with real life addresses. There's no elimination of this complexity by AI'ing it hard.

They could have kept playing with the myriad of bizarrely overcomplicated financial instruments, like certs, options, reverse convertibles (?), synthetic collateralized debt obligations (???), but no, AI bros simply chose to short the entire labor force.
Nothing says growth more than spending our days explaining human concepts to a language model. 😅
But realistically, I hope people don't lose sight of this and find their way to develop the writing muscle. It's too easy to be sloppy when the machine can pretend to understand everything we say.
I was one of those engineers, hating to produce spec. "Why would I break this up if I can just do it?" After years of struggle (and many apologies to my team), it morphed into _the_ most impactful skill in the shop!
But now? I still do it, but it's mostly being fed into the slop randomizer...
OpenCode with Minimax M2 experiment is going pretty well. Does a lot of plumbing decently and charges fractions of a cent.
