If you see a snail crossing a path & grab its shell to move it out of the way, you might be injuring it while thinking you're helping but grabbing the shell is a problem

A 25 mm scale puts you on max. 21 x 36 cell grid on a DIN A1 page - which is quite table filling.

So here is my questions to you: How big are your #battlemaps for your #LancerRPG battles in cells x & y and what is the scale of your cells?

The map is DIN A1, so it is 594 x 841 mm in size with hexagons with a 10 mm side length, which makes them ca. 17 mm in the smallest diameter. Its more like a tactical overview than an actual #battlemap for #LancerRPG which I presume is rather played on 25 mm cells.

I have fallen into some kind of strange feature creep mentality where I want to add tile sets of SVG tiles to paint the maps with.
Because just colors do not look fancy enough.
Because I need 10 different kinds of cacti on a desert map.
Because I don't have enough other things to do right now.

So I vibe-coded a map generator HTML doc that lets you generate a square or both kinds of hex grids an paint the cells in color and numbered zones onto maps ranging in size from DIN A6 to DIN A 1 so I can generate, draw and print maps of any size for my #LancerRGP #ONESHOTINC campaign.

There’s a principle I talk a lot about in relation to Lancer game design which I call the Knight Boat Principle. In Season 6, Episode 13 of The Simpsons, “And Maggie Makes Three,” this exchange occurs:

TV Announcer: We now return to Knight Boat, the Crime Solving Boat!
[a boat chases several men on jet skis]
Michael: Faster, Knight-Boat, we’ve gotta catch those starfish poachers! Oh no, they’re headed for land!
[the starfish poachers switch from jet skis to motorcycles and speed away]
Michael: We’ll never catch ‘em now!
Knight Boat: Incorrect. Look, a canal!
[cut to the Simpsons’ living room]
Bart: Aw, every week there’s a canal!
Lisa: Or an inlet!
Bart: Or a fjord.
Homer: Quiet! I will not hear another word against the boat.

I actually hold the belief that it’s perfectly fine for there to always be a canal, or an inlet, or a fjord, because this is a show about Knight Boat, the crime-solving boat, and if you don’t have a waterway down which Knight Boat can travel, you are kneecapping the entire premise of your show.

Lancer is a game about mech fights. Major problems in the Lancer universe must always, in some way, have a solution that includes fighting in mechs. If players travel to a place in their mechs, it should be a place with architecture sized to reasonably accommodate them.

This is the guiding thematic principle around which I write for Lancer. I need to justify why the mechs are fighting in a theme park, but I do not need to justify why the mechs are able to fight in the theme park – In Golden Flame and in the greater extent the whole of Lancer is a setting about giant robots being used for things they definitely shouldn’t. If you need me to explain to you why the theme park uses fully-armed giant robots as mascots, you are in the wrong game.

I call this the Knight Boat Principle and it is an unironic, genuine game design principle that I have, which can be briefly stated as: "if your core gameplay has a specific premise, your worldbuilding should be structured around enabling it, rather than the other way around." #LancerRPG

An online mapmaker - Hextml Online hexmap maker and campaign manager for DnD and other RPG.

I made this map with hextml.playest.net. Its a very niffy online mapmaker, I had a lot of fun with. Its sufficient for nature centered maps. I have not yet found the tile set for a more technological environment, as you may be able to tell from the road going from left to right on the third map.

Map for #Session01 - #PrinterJam of #ONESHOTINC, my #LancerRPG campaign, I can't wait to finally play with my group.
Each hexagon is 25mm in diameter, I had to have them printed on 3 Din A1 pages. I am still unsure if our gaming table is big enough. Wish me luck.

Currently reading #NoRoomForAWallflower for #LANCER_RPG - this seems to be an amazing campaign. I hope I get to play this some time with my group.
