Great Engineers know what NOT to build.
Remember that.
Remember it is your responsibility to PUSH BACK when asked to build something you shouldn't be building.
Wheel has already been invented.
It's out there, open source. ;)
It’s so funny to think about the fact that there’s people out there deferring every life decision to this
The neighborhood theater is showing a chilling horror movie about a European beauty who marries a bloodthirsty, ancient, parasitic monster, and also Dracula.
Can't believe how far @peergos.org has progressed since I tried it a few years ago - great FOSDEM presentation by @ianopolous.bsky.social
The Epstein emails should really end the debate over whether society should have billionaires. "Do you want there to be a class of people so powerful they can fuck your kids and no one will even try to do anything" seems like an easy sell if everyone in politics wasn't trying to get on their payroll
It's always the ones you most suspect.
I can’t stress this enough. The state of 4th Amendment law is that the cops can’t force you to type in a passcode but they can force you to swipe your finger or present your face. Never stop using passcodes/passwords to unlock your devices. And consider additional code to unlock Signal.
My only problem, after I got comfortable with it, is that I'm now having a hard time going back to Slack/Discord !
... despite how enticing copy-pasting that code may seem!!
Stay laser-focused on solving your unique business domain challenges with your code and keep on building on the shoulders of giants for anything else.
Opting to take on entire maintenance ownership for some general-purpose piece of code that has already been:
- peer-reviewed,
- tested,
- verified as working by (usually) hundreds of others,
is neither smart, nor a good use of your time / budget.
Public Service Announcement (PSA):
Just because Claude / Gemini / Copilot / $LLM can spit out some random bash script / library code that seems to replace an #OpenSource library, please remember to **STOP** yourselves by using it that way.
We're so back! We're in the new year and we have released 1.6.0 (*Amaryllis*) of the Radicle binaries.

Before pressing "Send" on your email, take 2 seconds to think:
Could you schedule it for tomorrow morning instead ?
Does the recipient really need to have it before then ?
Weekend well spent on #homelab upgrades:
📈 3 -> 5 node #K3s cluster,
💪 single-node etcd -> 3 node etcd for #HighAvailability,
💿 updated k3s,
🧹 tidied up some cabling on home rack.
All set for a #medialab installation !
Next up:
- find some time for that ... 😅

Lars has been hard at work exploring how to integrate CI primitives on top of the Radicle protocol.
Here's the status quo, as of the end of this year 🗓️

If you're involved with making software, I'd invite you to join the #SoftwareMakers Zulip:
software-makers.zulipchat.com/join/vhrgcnr...
Come try it out. Optionally, hang around if you like! ;)
Give its *simpler* UI a chance to show you why it offers **superior** UX to:
- have on-topic discussions (by allowing you to move messages 🤯 ),
- properly reply to others' messages,
- navigate content (did someone say "keyboard shortcuts" ? )
The number of times I struggled against Discord... 😣 (but, it's built for gamers, I get it)
Well... I am now in love with #Zulip !
And after a couple of years using it, there's no going back. It's just one of those things.
I don't think #Slack and #Discord are the right tools for software developer communities any more.
There, I said it!!
The number of times I wanted to look for an old thread in Slack, where a colleague had shared a useful tip... ☹️ (only to find that it's not "in the last 10K messages")
I thought the set of #HiFi speakers I'm looking to get are expensive.
Then I discovered there are speaker **cables** (yes, #cables) that cost more than they do.
I feel better now.

I watched this video and I must now find a way to stop myself wanting an automated DVD ripping robot…
I have no idea how to do that, so please do yourselves a favour and DON'T watch this video:

Nice to see some familiar faces & meet new ones over at #JFall !
Always inspiring to speak to folks who care about Open Source. It really makes working on #radicle worth it all the more!!
Thanks to #NLJUG for organising such a large event and being great hosts!
Hope to be back again some day! o/

Wheels down #AMS for #JFall !
Really excited to meet folks from #NLJUG these couple of days.
If you contribute/maintain Open Source, I'd love your thoughts on whether it's time we found a better home for #FLOSS - as a #PublicGood.
I think that home can be #Radicle. Join my talk to hear why! ;)

2025 now marks 10 years of running #OpenSpace events for me: learning, teaching, growing, making friends. Whether you code, experiment, or mentor, open‑space lets you dive deep.
Show up - and you’re already the right person!
Let's catch up in some #SoCraTes event soon! 🙌
2020‑21 = #COVID pause – a reminder that real value lives in‑person: a #TDD chat while swimming, a coding kata at sunset in #Crete. Since 2023 #SoCraTesCrete stands on its own: craft‑focused talks, passionate debates, hard questions.
Our first iteration saw "just" ~10 people. But the magic wasn’t the headcount,it was the deep convos and lasting connections over a multi‑day open‑space – still the best part a decade later! By 2018 #Agile broadened, I drifted to #SoftwareCrafters, then #SoCraTes appeared and #SoCraTesCrete was born
A Decade of #OpenSpace #Unconferences 🎉 Back in 2014 #JCrete sparked a simple idea: “Could I bring more Open Space to the world?” With 2 more founders from 2 other countries, we launched #AgileCrete – a playground for coaches, Scrum Masters and devs to swap ideas about everything agile.
Hey o/
Thanks for reaching out, but I'm afraid this position has been filled.
Good luck with your search!
