A rocky shore with patches of snow at the bottom of the frame curves to the right and then to the center of the frame. The trees along the shore are gray and inverted because they’re reflecting infrared light. Dark clouds are on the left of the sky, and on the right the sky looks bronze.

I made an infrared camera with a Raspberry Pi. I made slight adjustments to the RAW file to restore some detail in the clouds.

In other words, alt text and the alt attribute predate the slog of A.I. technology. Alt text predates every single social media platform. Alt text has been a standard and best practice for quite a while. Insinuating alt text is just a tool for A.I. scraping is ignorant of history and accessibility.

AI isn’t going to take my job; it’s going to make it less enjoyable. I need to consider another career change. Something that involves using my hands.

Cool. @github.com is removing a feature I actually use. Probably so they can enshitify it with more AI. github.blog/changelog/20...

First day back from an 8-day vacation. 489 unread Slack messages, 33 unread emails, numerous tickets I would rather not count, and… I watch my cat sleep on my desk for 30 minutes.

I made a super janky light box… er, tube from LED strips and scrap paper for taking portraits. Not fancy but it works.

I was talking about that show recently. When I was in 5th grade, it was a huge part of the school year. We wrote reports on whales, made papier-mâché sealife…. I know how to desalinate water with a garbage bag thanks to that show.

To companies and organizations thinking about doing a design contest, just don’t. Hire a designer. If you’re a nonprofit with absolutely no budget, find someone to volunteer their time.

A shiny, new carburetor in my hand.

I love looking at carburetors. They’re simple, but complex. A fella I know got a new snowblower. He missed the old one, but he couldn’t get it running. With a bit of work, I got it running again. The carburetor was clogged and corroded.

The joys of owning motorcycles in a country that is not on the metric system: I spent hours going to multiple hardware stores to find a bolt. I ended up special ordering one. If only the US had followed through switching 50 years ago.

360 degree view looking up to the sky in a damp forest with vivid green leaves. The trees converge at the center of the frame, and their trunks are distorted. The ground, covered in small plants, is along the edges of the frame. It looks like a tunnel.

PHIND-70B MODEL said, “You raise a fair point. Looking back at our conversation, I should have recognized the elegance of your original solution immediately. Instead, I spent several iterations trying to "improve" something that was already optimal.”
