You’re absolutely correct. the amount of times I’ve had to prompt a bot with “this approach is too broad, please narrow the scope by doing <x> instead” is…well, more than several!

I’d be lying to you if I said I found it surprising that this dev of bluesky used AI tooling for a small, explicit purpose, saw it was good at that, and decided turn the dial to 11 rather than keeping it where it belonged.

Otherwise known as, what every thoughtless dev does with shiny new toys.

This “let the agent do it and I’ll give it a cursory glance” approach gripping the average dev these days makes me sad. It‘s reckless, overly-complicated, and is a net negative to anyone who thinks using it beyond menial task automation is a smart idea.

as with many other devs, AI tooling has been foisted upon me in my day to day and my newest job feature is finding ways to use it as little as possible because I am significantly more skilled, thoughtful, and well-considered with my code than any bot can ever hope to be.

sometimes I think the team behind this website forgets that it got popular in spite of its horrendous technical architecture, not because of it.
