The G.U remaster is funny because most of the prerendered cutscenes were left untouched (they have a warning on start-up) but the art direction is good enough to carry it.

And the characters look great when they have the expressive faces going on.

4. .hack Original series - The way the story is woven into forum posts and news events that you read on your future computer is so cool. It blew my mind when I first played it. I get into sort of a trance state when I'm doing combat in this game lol it kinda rocks.

Considering Matsuyama-san said in the famitsu interview that .hack//Z.E.R.O. was them "restarting ‘.hack’ from zero.”, there's not much room to doubt that it's intended to be a reboot of the series that lets them apply everything they've learned since IMOQ and not worry about the expanded lore.

Yeah I don’t think it’s possible to continue with all the baggage. There’s just too much. I keep saying the trailer to me screams of reinterpretation of the .hack//IMQO. I really believe that to be the case. So much so I think .hack//G.U. will still play as a sequel for more collection sales later.

the photo is in the net cafe I drafted a lot of the plot in. the chapter also takes place in a net cafe. this is probably all of my .hack knowledge at full force while trying to maintain any semblance of “storytelling,” all based on one line of prose in the original bullet that didn’t sit right

I mean to be fair, despite being $50 1/4 portions of a single game, they DID all come with a 30+ minute OVA at a time when most anime DVDs with that amount of content were $30 on their own, so the price isn't all that bad in the grand scheme of things. I got em all used years later anyway so lol

.hack//'s really one of those things where, like many CC2 games sadly, it kind of gets by on its vibes and charm, which it has a lot of. I just wish they're able to finally make the game they envision without any compromises with this new one.

Messing around with .hack//IMOQ to refresh my memory and man oh man I forgot just how ridiculous the brick walling this game does to you to pad out the playtime. Every major story dungeon you basically have to do a random dungeon on your own because you're severely underleveled.
